Item Subject: cc:Mail Text After reading an interview of the Prodigy on CDNow (http://www.cdnow.com), I found Rich Masio's (music editor) opinion of the best Electronic albums ever. He calls it "A Debatable List Of The Top 20 Electronic Records Of All Time." (the key word here is 'debatable'): Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express Meat Beat Manifesto - Storm the Studio Ministry - Twitch New Order - Power Corruption and Lies MARRS - Pump up the Volume 808State UTD:state 90 Gary Numan - Telekon Throbbing Gristle - 20 Jazz-Funk Greats Lords Of Acid - I Sit on Acid Negativland - Escape from Noise Lee Scratch Perry - Some of the Best David Bowie - Low Polygon Window - Surfing on Sine Waves Moby - Mobility/Go (Early Underground) De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising Caberet Voltaire - Living Legends Brian Eno - Music For Airports Suicide - Suicide Can - Anthology 1968-1972 My comments: 1) there's only 19 2) what a coincidence that the top 20 (19) albums of all time are on sale now at CDNow!! Commercialism, AAARGH! :-( 3) LORDS OF ACID????? 4) at least they got Eno on the frickin' list 5) Polygon Window....cool. But I guess this guy's never heard SAW 85-92 Notably missing from the list (IMHO): * The Orb * Tangerine Dream * Steve Hillage * Klaus Schulze * Atkins/Saunderson/May * Bill Laswell * ...I could go on forever -Bob Weisend

Why not go to the source and choose "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel"?

This record is so dated it's pathetic. It was great at the time but I think it only gets onto lists like these out of sheer reputation at this point. The skits (that seem to take up about half the record) are embarrassing, and most of the sampling is really forced. It's the sort of record that lots of people own, but only listen to once a year, if that.

"Hey, this one says 'Ambient #1' so it must be the number-one best Eno record, right?"

No way would I pick the first SAW collection over the Polygon Window album.

But... JACK DANGERS WEARS *LEATHER PANTS*! C. -- Chris.Hilker (cspot@hyperreal.org) "One being, that talking about things, while not exactly causing them to happen, does cause something,-- which is almost the same, tho' not quite. Unless it is possible to smoke a Potatoe."

This seems really unlikely considering that he's vegan.

This album is CLASSIC. It stands the test of time and will be remembered along with 'de la soul is dead' as huge building blocks in the foundation of hip hop and as influence to countless amounts of people(luke vibert seems to come in mind). The sampling seems pretty good to me. They do use a lot of familiar samples but its not like puff daddy or anything(good use of collage werk to my ears for 89). im out
