warning, my opinion to follow: I disagree. The technology exists, so use it. I personally like to see what gifted persons can do with any given medium and the web is definitely a new and great medium for these artists to work with. There is no reason why they should hold back on their creative output just to make their site 'compatable'. Seriously though, if you can't get WarpMart to work email them and I am sure you can get an order through. They are there to take your money anyway. Upgrade, download, surf... hess

degradeiblity is a big issue on the net today....what to design for who to design for...... i can see both sides of the issue....but if i were trying to sell something to ppl, i would try to make it as easy as possible to do so.....warpnet may not be doing this....they should at least make a noframe version....i believe plus8 does this....and i know for a fact that it's not that hard, building a website w/out frames, javascript, java, especailly if you have the content built....it's called repurposing.... blah blah blah....okay i'll shut up now.... ;) aaron..........

heh frames are the least of my (and everyone else's?) concern about not being able to order from Warpnet. :)

I believe that Java/JavaScript should only be used if it's absolutely necassary, and it is certainly not the case with WarpMart.. They could make the whole thing look and work exactly the same, minus some trivial details that don't matter. It's not practical to use Java just so thumbnails can be updated without loading a whole new page- Using forms as a "as soon as you click on this it appears courtesy of java," thing except that for the 70% of people who don't have java, you're fucked. __ __\ \ / /_\ \ \_____/ www.freq-div.home.ml.org

This is supposed to make us feel better? I bet I can find lots of people willing to take my money at far less inconvenience to me! On Mon, 25 August 1997, at 22:33:07, Hess Hodge wrote:

I didn't hear anyone complain when they chose to do business in english only. We were happy to buy into the idea that "warp speaks english" but why the problem with "warp speaks java"? The internet is a subset. For whatever combination of economic reasons [1,2] warp has chosen to become a sub subset. :-) Wanna go to Armenia? - Learn Armenian. Wanna go to Warp? - Upgrade your browser. 1. Time and maintenance savings of choosing one browser standard 2. Many people don't have browsers which conform to the latest JDK but projections suggest in a couple of months many/most will. But maybe I'm just saying this because Netscape FINALLY released a decent version of the Communicator/Navigator for Linux. :-) Q. -- qforce@holon.net http://www.holon.net/qforce/

What about the time and maintenance savings of sticking to the existing standards to begin with? Please note that standards are guildines/rules that people *follow*, not capitalistic enhancements to existing standards which can only be supported by developers with enough licensing dollars. --brett On Tue, 26 August 1997, at 15:50:50, Q-Force wrote:
