DJ set at the Planet, Saturday night / Sunday morning.
Have to say that this was the first time I'd heard him, not heard any
Model 500, etc. stuff. Not entirely what I was expecting, but then it was
difficult not ever having heard any of his music before. Started things
off with a slow, lazy beat over which he spread jazz and funk liberally. A
fair bit of divas wailing but nothing untolerable.
He lost me towards the middle of his set, partly because I was getting
tired and he also seemed to lose his way as far as track selection went. I
imagine part of the problem was that he started pretty late for here,
about 2.30, so most people had already danced to they're hearts content
(thanks to DJs Adrian, brother of Dandy Jack, and Siddartha) and were
starting to leave.
Towards the end I was persuaded to get off my arse again and things picked
up again, although he'd left the jazz/funk behind by now and was firmly in
harder territory (please don't ask for genre names as I'm not very good at
them). He did two and a half hours, until 5, and would have gone on if a
couple of policemen hadn't come in to make sure things stopped on the
hour.
Overall, a worthwhile experience even if he was a bit on the loose side
towards the middle.
I was wondering if anyone could give a quick run down of his releases.
