michael fakesh - demon 1 12(musik aus strom 4.01)
michael fakesh - demon 2 12(musik aus strom 5.02)
andre estermann - untitled 12 (musik aus strom 6.04)
after a long silence, punctuated only by the musik aus strom / skam
collaboration mask 2 and an ep for michael reinboths compost imprint,
the funkstorung duo of michael fakesh & chris de luna unleash a trio of
releases from their co-run munich based label
attention to detail is the keyword here, deep thought has been applied to
every stage of the production process, the design aesthetics are striking
yet subtle,
chunky 220mg vinyl pressed at 45, discreet label typography & elaborate
cardboard fold out sleeves with communication details impressed on the
front give that special feeling of lovingly-hand rather than coldly-mass
produced.
if you wanted to reduce things to a base level of analysis lazy comparisons
could be made to the music of autechres alter ego gescom or the output
of manchesters skam records, but lazy comparisons will do this music no
justice at all.
over both demon eps, discordant machines whirr & wheeze close to circuit
overload, unlike the cliched & prosaic view of the future espoused by many
of the inhabitants of electronica musica, these machines reflect the
dysfunctional environment of the present we all inhabit, hi hats chatter
like a super computer performing intricate microcosmic calculations, the
percussion crackles with interference as if being relayed across several
million miles of deep space and implied, beautifully fragile melodies and
textures enfold all in a blanket of subjective pleasure that hangs
delicately in the air, drifting away as dreamily as clouds on a summers
day.
on "demon.1", mike and marcus tha boards of canada take surfaise for a
lengthy stroll through languid analouge pastures, subliminaly deep and
funky, an amazing
journey.
the five cuts on demon.2 are more disjointed and frenetic in the rhythm
department, component parts of breakbeats are pieced together in a freeform
jigsaw puzzle that constructs itself in different ways each time it is
listened to, clipped and crunching hip hop rhythms are pushed over the
edge of the distortion abyss , whilst mancunian whizz kid jega punches the
thrusters with a verbose drum n bass mix with helter skelter breaks.
andre estermanm from essen (who has recorded for djax, eevolute & axodiya)
produces a wonderful selection of diverse & unpredictable esoterica, the
opening cut is an emotive slice of early 80s style sweet lo-fi synth pop,
kraftwerk meets japan meets donkey kong, over the 6 tracks these
inclinations are bumped up against more abrasive & spontaneous
undercurrents - breakbeat science on toy keyboards, abstract noise-fests
and harsh robotic harsh ryhthms straining at the leash.
