Excellent record. Some female vox, which the listener may consider a + or -. To my Sade-bias, the vox are lush. Jazziest Coldcut record. Breaks and pieces. 3

I just picked up a copy of the original German release as a cut-out last week. Much different then current Coldcut material. At first I though "what the hell...?" but that was quickly erased. The album is some really well-produced acid jazz type material. I enjoy it immensely. Run to store, pay $, enjoy, Paul wesley@interaccess.com

I guess there are two possibilites: either it's just a Jap release, or, alternatively a re-working of the original LP, as someone from the label posted that some of the stuff might be available, possibly with some tasty remixes if that's the original, think twice, since it was released back in 1994, when More and Black were doing stuff different than now, and I find it somewhere halfway between their Lisa Stansfield era and their current stuff Philosophy does have nice moment, even really nice Eine Kleine Headmusik is on it, Sign, Autumn Leaves in three version, with great Irresistible Force Full Chill = brillant Mixmastet Morris' mix in general, more on the jazzy/even housey/sometimes cheesy tip, with live vocals on some of the tracks, but I believe the tracks I mentioned above make it worth a pick also, it never had a CD release mk np. Funkstorung - Funkenstort - amazing..

I remember someone who wanted to trade it with me, and I guess that's what he said, and I didn't find anything about a CD at Ninja Tune web site, but I must be wrong.. anyhow, it forced me to buy a turntable, so I'm glad I didn't know :-) Howie B question: U2 came to town yestarday, and it's not IDM-irrelevant, since they brought Howie B with them, and the guy was spinning in a club after the concert, very nice set, mostly mid-tempo techno/triphop stuff, some jungle, no scratching, but a very interesting selection, and some nice tricks that surprised people dancing, obiously expecting a lame 4-to-the-floor stuff. in general, the audience sucked, as the gig was only for people invited by his label's local office and sponsors, so they didn't actually came for Howie and had no idea who is he. anyhow, the set was surprising as I have his 'Music for Babies', and it's far from what he spun at the club. Did he release anything new recently? remeber reading that he planned something for this summer.. mk np. Ken Ishii - X-mix

I suspect that this was a Euro-only release. At least, I've never seen a U.S. domestic copy. 3

Hi all, Im new to the list and as the archives aren't available at the moment i wasn't able to read the discussion on turntables that has been mentioned. Can any one fill me in on the advantages/disadvantages of vinyl. I only own two records (Meat beat manifesto - storm the studio and armed audio warfare) all my autechre, other mbm, everything else i like I own on cd. But id like to know which is the better quality and the pros and cons of each format. Im fairly new to all this someone put me on to autechre about two weeks ago and ive been buying up everything i can get my hands on, they're brilliant. Also i just bought The Aphex Twin Classics can any one point me to some other releases that are good as inttoductions, i particularly enjoyed analogue bubblebath 1 and didgeridoo (its the australian in me :) )THanx fix8

Deal was that Arista put out the CD, we (ninja) put out the vinyl. It is now deleted. We are considering re-releasing the 12" that originally came with the record as it has the legendary Irresistible Force mix of Autumn Leaves. I would find someone with a copy and listen to it first before laying down the duckets for a japanese disc as musically it's probably not what you expect. No doubt some skankin weasels at Arista will reissue it anyway after they see how the new Coldcut record and single are selling. Ninjas

Yeah! listen before you buy... I snatched this up when I saw it on vinyl and I was all excited. Um, when I listened to the album, I couldn't make my way through a single track. It was pretty much standard R&B... Dont' get me wrong, it's really GOOD r&b musically but some of the vocals really bother me. Then I got to the included 12" - Um, I guess it made it worth it but I really wish that I could have gotten this second peice of wax by itself for less - but none the less, I really piss off all the R&B djs I know by playing it when they come over :) NP: Angel Heart - off of coldcut's philosophy Just happened to be listening to it as I was reading this - felt the need to reply! Ambient Dub volume 2, actually. It is the irresistible force mix (which as I said blew me away), but it certainly isn't 17 minutes (although I wish it was).. Something could be done about the vocals as well, but I guess you can't have everything.. On Thu, 14 August 1997, at 09:53:54, Zenon M. Feszczak wrote:

yeah, i got this two days ago. it's awesome. Daddy Rips It Up Mix - Coldcut doing their usual brilliant slice 'n' dice. It's so great to hear them return to their roots after all those entertaining diversions. I remember hearing the original Beats N Pieces when it came out, which is, geez, almost 10 years ago now! It blew my mind. Led Zep & James Brown & Vivaldi? One of those moments where all the rules changed and music became plastic once again. (First time I can really recall that feeling of absolute vertigo was 1982 when I first heard Who's Afraid Of The Art Of Noise?) John McEntire Tortoise Mix - slow, groovy, doesn't seem as related to the feel as the rest of the mixes do. Kid Koala Version - excellent scratchadelics, creating an entirely new rhythm just by scratching up elements of the original. visionary. Q-Bert mix - yes, west coast meets uk in head on collision, no damage except to your preconceptions. some hilarious stuff from what sounds like a Fantastic Four record. if you've never seen q-bert doing his thing, it's hard to believe this is all just two turntables and a truckload of talent. see www.skratchpiklz.com and check out the video clips. you won't believe your eyes. T Power Mix - a very satisfying junglist workout in the ed rush vein. Strictly Kid Teeba Jam - strictly kev, kid koala and ollie teeba (the herbaliser) scratching and cutting it up live. the CDROM portion contains the video for the coldcut mix, which just totally cracks me up. first, the japanese girl is hilarious ("geta toa the partya jumpinga!"). then, the video itself is great. especially love the "ninjando" logo (i work at a videogame editorial company so i see the nintendo logo approx 30000000000 times a day). plus the scores in the "Cold Kone" videogame: 808, 909, 1200, 1210. only complaints: they should have included the original version! and they should also have included all the samples so us wannabe boys could create our own remixes! anyway, run out and this little number immediately. -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications ...I was an infinitely hot and dense dot...
