A one big review for you... • Sublime the Adolescence comp CD & 3" CD-ROM (Sublime-Japan) This is another one of those excellent limited japanese- only releases that seem to be apprearing in great abund- ance recently but this comp is exceptionally good. Eleven tracks, almost 74 minutes, of exclusive cuts from sublime/ reel musiq artists including Co-Fusion, Dan Curtin, Max Brennan, Da True B-Boy Descendant (4Hero), and Flare among others. In general, most of the tracks on this comp walk the thin line between techno and d&b with making it difficult to categorize many of the tracks as being in either style. The standouts on this comp are Dan Curtin's Anxiety, Max Brennan's Banging The Bass, Flare's Sinuosities, and Co-fusion's Torn Open. Most of the tracks on this comp are from forthcoming releases so, from the quality of these tracks, there's a lot ot look forward to on Sublime. But the real treat is the accompanying 3" CD-ROM which features a delightful multimedia adventure also called Sublime the Adolescence. After the opeing graphic you are given three options. The first is a live 5-minute video performance of Flare vs Dr. Y.S. called "The Encounter." The second is an interactive Sublime/Reel Musiq discography. This discography allows you to view the album cover and discograpy of 20 CD and 20 12" as well as listen to a 60 sec audio clip from each release. After listening to this i discovered some real gems in the sublime/reel musiq back catalog. The third option is a Sublime biography. This option is little more than a slideshow of articles about sublime artists & releases over a techno track. Another plus is the unique packag- ing. Both CDs are stored in a single 4"x5"x1" piece of black foam rubber covered by a royal blue cardboard box with a 2" wide dtrip of clear plastic tape containing the compilation information. This is a wonderful CD-ROM and a great comp. Both offer a great view of a great and very innovative japanese techno label. A must have. 10/10 More reviews soon... -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
