Hey, sorry I pissed you off. I personally find the threads on this list announcing MP3s to be the most interesting. If 90% of the messages were announcements of new MP3s with descriptions of the tracks, I would be 90% happier. I am under the assumption that there are others that feel the same way. I'd be interested to hear a little vote on whether people like these messages, or hate them - please speak up. Myself, I delete all of the album review threads because I couldn't care less. I'm sure that there are others that read those exclusively. Basically, read what you like and delete what you don't. I only post messages referring people to my music when they're requested, or when I have a new track online. I love it when other artists do the same because I know when to go download new stuff from their page. Anyway, like I said, sorry I pissed you off. P.S. - Glad you liked the music. Thanks for the compliment. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I have to say I'm on Brock's side on this one, let me just reply to a couple of things... Rishi I hear where you are coming from with regard to wanting more info about hearing new (potentially cool) music, with that said I have to ask you how old you are (are you a student) and/or whether or not you have a full time job in addition to your music. I ask only because there are a substantial number of people (myself included) on this list who simply don't have the time to keep track of the mp3s du jour and thus get annoyed with the frequent blatant self promotion posts. Brock is also a special case in that not only does he work (correct me if I'm wrong Brock don't you run a website), but he has also been on this list for the past 4 (or more) years. He has been on this list since the early days when mp3s didn't really exist, there weren't new artsists and labels popping up on a weekly basis, etc. It's just the pure glut of posts is getting tired, and the ratio of promotion messages to non promotion messages is growing larger. I suspect the majority of people who have issues with the mp3 type posts have been on this list for quite a while and are not exactly happy with the overall content shift of the list over the past year. But as someone who is doing this whole micromabel thing I can appreciate you wanting to spread and share music. My advice to you would be to find a way to track who it is that downloads your music, and make a (weekly, monthly) newsletter that goes directly to them... just my .02 Nate Rishi Saez wrote:

I figure I will chime in here. Even though I know it will only continue this thread. In the past MMR has used this list to announce our activities. These posts were very rare but I still felt kind of bad for doing this. To make up for it I always tried to post something else that was on topic. What I am saying is, if you want to post that you have a new mp3 out follow it up with some meaningful discourse or some reviews of new music. What you will probably find is that you won't post to many announcements anymore. and there is another thing, perhaps instead of slamming out the tracks, try to slow down the pace and refine what you have. The responses you get to your music may improve. Note: this is just general advice; I have not heard your tracks. I Simply do not have the time to keep up with all the music out there. Between my job (it is oddly connected to the mp3 music biz), MMR and my record collection I do not have the energy to sort through mp3 posts. I probably should, as I would more than likely find new artists. But A&R isn't what I do at MMR ;) thats for the other monkey.... n.p. OK fair enough. I didn't realize that people disliked these messages so much, I'll quit doing them. Sorry for being a pain in the neck everyone! Here's a suggestion I got - Get a list of addresses of people that would like these announcements and mail them privately. Good idea. Anyone out there that wants to know when I release new stuff, please mail me and let me know. I'll add you to my "Fleshpile List" and mail you whenever something new happens. Sound good? Great. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i agree here 100%. i still haven't read any good reasons why we (the listeners and the artists) should NOT post free music downloads, but instead we should try and figure out how to turn a mailing list into a 5th grade debate club.... by the way, i've read complaints about mp3.com artists posting from mp3.com artists themselves...(?) some of you don't use it as your subject title, but you leave the links to yr site down below yr name. i think that's a superb way of doing it. let me ask... if we (the artists) leave a link below our name after every post, regardless of the subject matter, does it qualify with the rest of the list? if every artist had the freedom to post whenever they felt like it WITHOUT getting shit from the members of the list that find it annoying or offensive or whatever the dissatisfaction may be, and we (the artists) put in the subject line "dl my new mp3s" so that the annoyed may delete it without a second glance, would there be a problem then?? joseph joe

this is all so very simple really... everything in moderation they say... what is moderate for posting about one's music to the list? * weekly postings... no, not cool at all * posting whenever you have a new track up... no, not cool * monthly postings... possibly not a problem * bi-monthly... perfect Just be low frequency my friends. (moderation = low frequency) this list IS about MUSIC - not just about records, signed artists, opinions... it's about all things that are IDM or IDM related, right? :) I dig hearing about music that I can access... I can access mp3 files easily - instant gratification... it's nice! Artists should post! There really is a lot of excellent music on mp3.com - it's just not at the top of the charts... BTW - fleshpile is pretty good - don't blow him off just because he can't stop clicking on the send button :) Fleshpile - it really helps if you contribute to the list to... I myself rarely post, so I felt it wasn't right for me to tell the list about all the tracks I've released - so I stopped... but I do have my own list with about 60 people on it, and it works great for me. hasta, Sonic Wallpaper ______________________________ http://www.mp3.com/sonicwallpaper http://www.mp3.com/live http://www.mp3.com/remixes http://www.sonicwallpaper.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
