His remix of 'Love Me Sweet' by Kid Loco, featuring Katrina Mitchell. Off-centre repetitive drum loops, heroic portamento synth lead, freaky vocal processing etc. But point taken. Nobody answer that question! If there's anything worse than off-topic music discussions then it's 'what is IDM?' flamewares. So everyone just back off! jim o'rourke has been doing a WIDE variety of music for a LONG time.. that is one of the reasons i enjoy his output. some of his work with illusion of safety is quite good (though it crosses more into the realm of industrial/experimental/noise/whatever). then he has his more folk/pop stuff, most of which i adore -- but yes, does not fit much with the idm list. but the stuff he has been doing WITH his laptop crosses nicely into the world of idm. personally i am VERY interested to see if he ever combines the popstar + laptoprocker into one sound -- i think he could really come up with something (the only comparison i can make to what i would hope for might be some of the sound fennesz creates). anyway, i guess my point is he is not just on any "tip"... at least in my opinion. he seems to be quite the diverse musician. and yes, i left out many of his projects and most likely a ton of his sounds. ...whatever. we should ONLY talk about idm though. i agree. none of this ambient shit or house bullshit or techno shit or noise garbage. just idm. yah. chris. music for lunchpails . wednesdays 6-9pm . kuci 88.9fm . www.kuci.org it.s ok to like noise it.s okay to like house it.s okay to like pop _we are all lost --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Jim O'Rourke worked for several years with Illusion of Safety and made some pretty intense music focusing on the field recording/digital processing side of things, so I think he's still pretty relevant. He's also recorded electroacoustic noise material with Gunter Muller and created several minimal ambient albums of his own, not to mention remixing artists such as Merzbow and Autechre. I was surprised to hear of his connections to the post-rock indie scene a few years ago when I had only associated his name with extreme experimentalism until then. About as IDM as Fennesz or any Mego artist, IMO, and therefore still relevant. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
