Lest there be any doubt that SIGGRAPH in LA is *the* best conference in the entire world ... Last night the SIGGRAPH Local Chapters party took over the L.A. Zoo to the between-band DJ strains of Quando honcho Jason Bentley ... yes Virginia, there are ravers at SIGGRAPH! (Including sf-raver Cindy Kawakami ... hi Cin!) And courtesy of a former SoCal-Raver and 313'er who shall remain nameless for the moment, I found out that Talvin Singh is supposed to appear at a party thrown by SquareLA's parent company, SquareUSA. The party is going to be at Union Station, downtown LA, on Wednesday night. It is probably not open to the public, so your best bet is to get to SIGGRAPH by the end of Wednesday, go to the SquareUSA booth in the Exhibit Hall, and beg :-) - Greg P.S. Apologies to you IDM lot that aren't in LA. You're blowing chunks :-)

no i'm not. i went to club VSF last night (weekly jungle in san francisco's south of market district) to hear Mr Singh DJ. and it only cost $7, far less than a siggraph pass i imagine. :) review: he played some very good records. started with some slow dubby triphop stuff and moved into nice atmospheric eastern-tinged jungle. unfortunately the club was so hot and smoky that i had to bail about 45 minutes into his set. there wasn't enough super incredible mind melting brilliance to make me want to suffer the atmosphere (or rather, lack of it). i definitely recommend checking him out tho if he hits your area. note to other bay area junglists: the jungle night at vsf on mondays is pretty happening... recent guests have included doc scott, ed rush, and ltj bukem. it's getting very popular tho so get there early to avoid the lines. -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications ...I was an infinitely hot and dense dot...
