*sorry gotta throw this one out to the list to demonstrate promos come in TWO formats and I am NOT full of shit* Sheesh A ton of you have emailed me saying I am flat out WRONG about this whole PROMO artwork/no artwork issue and that I should apologize to ROWLAND ATKINSON . What I want to say about this is that there _obviously_must be TWO formats in which promos come out. I have only purchased promos that DO have artwork. Each time, these CDs were as the original release, only to have a huge stamp on it saying "PROMO not for resales, blah blah blah" *OR* it has a hole cut out in the inlay card. Since this is *MY* experience with promos, this is what I expected I was getting in the mail from ROWLAND. "Buyer beware" is your reaction. FINE. I don't give a shit. But here's some guy about to flame me about being a bad trader and all when he did exactly the same shit (at the time this the way I felt, now some of you have informed that the promos come artless as well). So you can see why I got all upset when threatened to called a bad trader. I have traded with plenty of you here, on the ambient list, and the Analogue list. This is the first time I was threatened to be flamed as such and for a piece of goddamn paper you bet your ass I am going be irate. I wipe my ass with paper, not ruin people's reputations over it, this is what I was threatened with folks. If you can't see it that way I don't know what else to say other than I am now schooled in trading promo's with people. if you have never seen promos the way *I* have describe them, I can photocopy one for you and settle this. Promos come in both formats, so I am not full of shit folks. SORRY GOES OUT TO ROWLAND!!! 0

Promo's don't have 'a' format. They can be the full release version with or without a cutout or stamp, they can be a cd stuck in one of those lame ass paper envelopes, they can be a fucking raw CD thrown at your head by a member of the band. Whatever, just ask (or tell) what it looks like if it's a promo and you'll know before you trade. I never heard anyone bitching about white labels... word to the mothership, brock ps. Why wait for a flame when you can make one yourself! :-) np: V/A - 'Electric Ladyland IV'

I think both parties were probably in the wrong here. If something is a promo the seller/trader should mention "no artwork" or "hole-punched" if it's applicable since promo's have no consistent format and many do come with artwork and even special packaging. I Don't think you can just assume someone will be happy with something just because it's a "promo". If the inlay insert on a CD is missing that should be mentioned too obviously. If I received a CD with a problem I felt was significant and the person wouldn't trade it back, I would just not trade with them again. I definately wouldn't threaten to publically label them a "bad trader" based on a missing inlay insert unless it was a CD that was particularly rare or expensive. i.e. if I paid $40 for a copy of "philosophy of sound and machine" and it was missing the booklet or inlay I wouldn't be a happy camper. Probably about time to kill this thread too don't ya think? =)
