Well, I am a long time EMS Synthi AKS owner. Mine in fact has been heavily modded by EMS for Variable Sync and voltage controlled waveshaping. I also have a EMS pitch->cv converter and EMS 8 octave filter bank. I await my death. 8)

Prices for them have been steadily climbing over the past few years up into the $600-$700 range, I dont think that makes them very undervalued. I personally think it is one of the more overused pieces right now, almost reaching 303 like status. I would almost consider selling mine at this point if it didnt work so well with my MS50. BTW, my studio picture web page has pictures of the units we are talking about, and some others you might find interesting as well: http://www.goldengate.net/~rw/studio/picture.htm -- Rob Williams</>fEEd</>Tempest rw@goldengate.net</>tempest@hyperreal.org

"...." <kung.funk@virgin.net> writes... In fact its quite a favourite with a lot of 'idm' artists, Aphex uses one loads, he filters most of his drums through his synthi or his Korg ms-20, they both have a very distinctive filter. In fact the synthi was on the front cover of the early Mo-wax record Major Force West 'The time has come / Martian Economics" it has a great little modulation matrix which looks like a game of battleships....erm space battleships! I want a synthi.... if you had one id kill you for it (this is aimed at everyone BTW) even though the synthi is one incredible machine(i would love to have one myself) definately dont underestimate the ms-20. i use it to warp sounds by running it through the filer section like a lot of people do. i have had incredible results with it. a great piece, and seriously undervalued. get your hands on one if you are looking for a monster analog synth. i sold an arp 2600 recently because i couldnt afford to keep both that and the ms-20, and the arp had to go. i found that given the choice i go back to the korg everytime. it may not have the name recognition that the 2600 or synthio has, but dont count it out. pj -- pj>the exalted grand puba of mail order modern music 2905 o'donnell st, baltimore, md. 21224 fon: 410.675.2172 fax: 410.675.2373 www.modernmusic.com
