Hello guys, A few weeks/months (delete which is appropriate) the remix album of Tortoise was discussed. My friend has been looking for it for ages, without any luck over here. Can somebody please give me the details on this (title, catalogue number, label, ...) ? I'm hoping to find it at Ear/Rational or something similar. Is it still available or was it a limited edition ? Thanks for your help. dv8 (buy Subliminal Sandwich or die)

I've heard that there was a full-length album with remixes, predating the album which has Djed on it. Anyone ? dv8 (buy Subliminal Sandwich or die)

I believe you are referring to "Rhythms, Resolutions and Clusters," a 33-minute CD EP (I don't know if it was released in any other format), which was apparently limited to 2000 copies or some such number (it did not state that it was a limited edition release anywhere on it). I haven't been able to find one since I bought mine over 6 months ago. At any rate, there are 7 songs on it (all mushed together onto 1 CD track), most of which is remixed stuff from their self-titled CD. I don't have it on me, but remixers included Jim O'Rourke and Steve Albini. Great disc, but *really* hard to track down now. Like I said, I haven't seen one in a while, and I've been looking for copies for other people. Their self-titled CD has been re-released in a green-and-white cardboard package, so it should be easy to find. More "ambient" than "idm," though, quite unstrucured, jazzy, mind-shifting stuff using non-electronic instruments. Their newest one, _Millions_Now_Living_Will_Never_Die_ is better, though, including the 20-minute "Djed," which has an Oval-ish quality to it. There's a limited-eidition vinyl remix EP out there for this, but I don't have it and can't seem to find it (can anyone help me?). -- Adam J Weitzman ----- Individual, Inc. ----- weitzman@individual.com "I love the music of the 20th century!" - Bruce Willis, "12 Monkeys"

This is the one my friend is looking for. Oh boy, I've got my work cut out for me I guess. Did anybody try Ear/Rational or other online stores yet for this ? dv8 (buy Subliminal Sandwich or die)

The remix EP of Djed is called "Tortoise Remixed" and is limited edition vinyl in a yellow cover. Side 1 is a remix by U.N.C.L.E., side 2 is a remix by John McEntire. Karl-Michael.

The Much to my surprise I actually like the Oval remix 12", as I never liked Oval in the past. Their first album practically sent me off to sleep, the remix is pretty good in comparison. I prefer the U.N.K.L.E. remix up till now. Still some goodies to come ... Tortoise has (alledgedly) also been remixed by Scanner & Aphex Twin ... Helen OnNow: Autechre - Incunabula

Hi y'all, I realize I might be getting into dubious idm territory here, so flame if you must (or just reply privately, if you've got the info I'm asking for). The first Tortoise remix EP (U.N.K.L.E.) to come out was on City Slang (the UK label, but it was licensed from Thrill Jockey (USA)) and had the number Shell 001 on the label, but etched on the vinyl was Shell 002 (with the 2 scratched out and a 1 next to it). The second one to come out was remixed by Oval and came out on Thrill Jockey and had the number 12.3 (on the label and etched into the vinyl) *and* the store where I got it had put a label on it saying "Third Tortoise Remix EP". I asked them what the second one was (this is Reckless in Chicago (where Tortoise are from)) and they had *no* idea and said that these were the only two they had gotten. Any clues from anyone out there? Maybe the Scanner or Aphex are gonna be #2? Much thanks in advance for any info..... cya brian
