Is quickly gaining my respect. I loved both of the tracks off of the NewElectronica 3 comp (which is where I first read his name). The track named Nova sounds like something Balil would do, and yeah, its just as good. His new Connections album releases some of his talent in all different styles (including the one aforementioned). It is one of the best purchases I've made this year, hands down. If you like Black Dog bytes, looking for IDM, want something without that damn cling clang D&B (not that there's anything wrong with that =;-), then check out this album. I don't think any self respecting IDMer will dislike this piece of work. Just a little so'in so'in since I've been so quiet lately. While Lance and Kev brought out some salient points regarding the new Paul Teebrooke album "Connections", I would like to offer a dissenting opinion. While "Nova" sounds great, it was already on the New Electronica 3 comp. The rest of the CD echoed sounds of minimal techno that I've heard many times before. Paul Rafanello intone@warwick.net

I picked this up last week upon reading Lance's little review and I was quite happy. I think it sounds like a cross between Carl Craig in terms of punchy break/rhythms vs. soothing little chords (ala 69's Sound of Music) and Autechre (in terms of abstract bleeps and bloops). I would say this was one of the better things I've picked up in a while. One thing I've noticed about the production, apart from being really crisp is that the drum programming shares dnb type characteristics. Not that it is dnb (certianly not), but the loops are funky and I hear a lot of that fade out/echo thing on the snares (ok maybe I'm not the best at descriptions) common to current dnb. It just seems there is a real attention to detail as far as the drum treatments. I picked this and the Skampler up on the same day-I was a happy camper that night! peace Nate On Fri, 18 Jul 1997, Paul Rafanello wrote:

I agree with Paul on this one as well. Nova is by far the gem on this record (Which is also available on 12"). This was the type of quality I expected to find through out the album, but instead It took on the direction of minmal techno and abstract trip hop (Which I quite have had enough of). I had to check to make sure this was indeed on op-art and not clear; of which is now onto bigger and better things. Ben Synaptic Records (Rick and Ben) 608 S.
