This new Carl Craig cd [More Songs About Food & Revolutionary Art] is
amazing, I can't stop listening to it. It's so deep and weird. The two vocal
tracks can go, but *every*thing else is beautiful. "Red Lights" is so twisted
-- as with all the best songs on here, it suggests a scene, like from an
unwritten story. ....The hero's lover finally given in to her addiction, the
hero wonders if he might not just as well follow her down. He walks the street
alone, sees wickedness all around. A tear forms in the corner of his eye and as
he looks up to the window of her apartment (where inside she almost certainly
lays near death in her narcotic slumber) it rolls down his cheek and under his
upturned collar. He goes to the door, slowly climbs the stairs... turns the
door knob and walks to her room. It's all there: the needle, the spoon, the
still-burning candle, the barely-breathing girlfriend. The scene is complete
now that he has entered: the helpless, weeping boyfriend... fade to black, her
rasping breath the last sound we hear.
