Not much talk about the album's merits... I "sampled" the beginnings of each track and apart from the strong singles (despite the 3rd rate Johnny Rotten attempts at being scary), it sounded like a very DULL album... Too bad this is what a lot of north americans' introduction to idm will be. Anyone listen to it straight through a few times?

Hmmm....new Skampler...new Muziq...new Drexciya...too many others... Don't think I'll be listening to Prodigy any time soon! Seriously this guy I work with, whose idea of IDM is limited to Chemicals and Prodigy (I feel sorry for him but I've already tried to convert him w/o success) 'lent' me the disk the day it came out. I played it to humor him...yeah it sucked (big surprise). The music was about as deep as a kiddie pool. Not that I would get visibly angry at my friend, but I'm really disappointed that he not only likes the stuff but blasts it out of his car on the way out of the parking lot. I predict a mass of Prodigy CD's popping up in the used bin next to Bush over the nest 3-5 months. Rock on. Nate On Mon, 14 Jul 1997, charlesian wrote:

The record shop where i get most of my electronic stuff had well over 30 copies in the used bin on the first weekend after it came out. . and that was only like 4 days later. . . . at least it shows there are at least 30 people with taste enough to dump it. . . Also just would like to waste a little bandwidth thanking those who have so favorably reviewed u-ziq. I have previously never given them much of a listen but found a cd in the used bin for a couple bucks and figured what the hell. . . today I went out and bought another disk cuz I liked it so much. . thanks all ***************** * NOW PLAYING * * * * PLATeau * ***************** TinOmen http://www.thefaktory.com tinoment@thefaktory.com "<color><param>8080,0000,8080</param>All good people are asleep and dreaming</color>"

when you pause to ponder, it really is amazing that "IDM" & All Synth-Based/Oriented/Inflected Music have been entirely lumped together as a category -- no? it's been interesting, charting the way that idmers have been getting woozy over the prospect that their/our genre (which is it?) could *possibly* be (sneaker) pimped out to those whose tastes remain surgically constructed by PR men (such folks do exist -- or is it rather that they have substantial market share? I can't remember the difference) chemicals? prodigy? breakbeat amyl house is breakbeat amyl house, rawkers with synths are rawkers with synths, and as for IDM, well that, IMS(ubjective)O, is (dare I say?) anything that both your mind & body can mambo to in sync. for me that includes steve reich, ornette coleman, scritti politti, wim mertens, laurie anderson, vivaldi, and every so often, certain dada artifacts (including aphex). but, again, that's just me. i'm enraptured by depeche mode too, and groove hard to the chem/"dust" bros. mx of "bug powder" -- but those ain't IDM, IMSO. Not much thought going on in there, just the pleasures of the rephlex (sic). viva IDM & its list -- it's cool as hell to be part of an essentially imaginary community. =-=-=signifier over signified signing off=-=-= np: spooky 'shunt' ep side 1 & a little p.s. re the "domestic" dispute: i take deep, personal offense when brits refer to amerikkkan editions as "imports." ;-)

Don't confuse the Cheese Brothers with the Dust Brothers. The remix was probably the American Dust Brothers not the lame name steeling Cheese Bros. <fontfamily><param>Fixedsys</param><smaller> _ / \ /\ /__/ \ / \ \ / \AVIS \\\\ emailing from work. <underline><color><param>0000,0000,ffff</param>ravis1@mindspring.com </color></underline> <underline><color><param>0000,0000,fefe</param>http://www.mindspring.com/~ravis1/</color></underline></smaller></fontfamily>
