when you pause to ponder, it really is amazing that "IDM" & All
Synth-Based/Oriented/Inflected Music have been entirely lumped together
as a category -- no?
it's been interesting, charting the way that idmers have been getting
woozy over the prospect that their/our genre (which is it?) could
*possibly* be (sneaker) pimped out to those whose tastes remain
surgically constructed by PR men (such folks do exist -- or is it rather
that they have substantial market share? I can't remember the
difference)
chemicals? prodigy?
breakbeat amyl house is breakbeat amyl house, rawkers with synths are
rawkers with synths, and as for IDM, well that, IMS(ubjective)O, is
(dare I say?) anything that both your mind & body can mambo to in sync.
for me that includes steve reich, ornette coleman, scritti politti, wim
mertens, laurie anderson, vivaldi, and every so often, certain dada
artifacts (including aphex). but, again, that's just me. i'm
enraptured by depeche mode too, and groove hard to the chem/"dust" bros.
mx of "bug powder" -- but those ain't IDM, IMSO. Not much thought
going on in there, just the pleasures of the rephlex (sic).
viva IDM & its list -- it's cool as hell to be part of an essentially
imaginary community.

np: spooky 'shunt' ep side 1
& a little p.s. re the "domestic" dispute:
i take deep, personal offense when brits refer to amerikkkan editions as
"imports."
