I was in a music store near where I live today and was was rather startled when I looked in the case where they keep drum machines and other electronic boxes iand there was an 808 sitting in there. I asked the salesperson how much the 808 was and he said $1400(thats US). My jaw nearly dropped to the floor. Has there been a recent massive shift in pricing on vintage stuff do to the whole "electronica" craze ? Last time I checked, they were selling for between $550 and $800 ROB **********LOGIQ'S NEW CD**************** BIG ON MARS 11 Tracks of Electronic Bliss http://www.sinless.com/logiq ****************************************

The most common net prices lately are around $700US. Haven't been buying from dealers lately. I don't know the current dealer price but $1400 US is *way* high for an 808. 909 dealerpricess are cheaper than that. Maybe the 808 is midi retrofitted?

As far as I see it, the prices for a 909 are dropping, which isn't a big surprise. But the prices for an 808 are rising which, again, isn't such a big surprise. Although $1400.- is a real good joke. Thaddi

Last time I checked, they were selling for between $55 10 years ago I bought a EMS VCS 3 (enos synth) for A$400. Beceause Im an idiot I sold it for the same amount 4 years ago. I saw it in second hand shop here in Melbourne for $3000 As well I saw a Roland Bass Line for A$1700 second hand mint condition. I think the rule might be that the price is what the market will bear, which dovetails neatly with the patient reseller who bears in mind that 'theres one born every minute' respects to all alan This message originates from Netlink.net.au Melbournes Premier Low Cost Internet Service Provider Call in with your Browser to http://www.netlink.net.au/

You know, I just bought myself a Korg Delta synth/string ensamble in good condition for R250 (S.A. Rands) (about +-$60 US). My brother bought a TB303 in 1995 for R250. We hear that other people have seen basslines on the market in South Africa for about R3000 ($666 U.S.). We think that is excessively expensive. later matthew d. smith http://users.iafrica.com/k/ko/konman

What someone paid for a Putney or an 808 years ago is pretty much irrelevant. You have to live in the present as far as equipment goes. An 808 was posted on analogue heaven for $550, so relatively good deals are out there. For that matter, relatively cheap digital drum machines can produce interesting sounds if helped by a few effects. Check http://soli.inav.net/~kent/music/chair.ram (real audio 3.0). All the drum sounds came originally from samples on my computer. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Psyche manifests as psychic through something we call 'winding', because it twists, and puts things that were far apart next to each other, complicatedly, taffywise." -- winona on channel 78 Kent Williams kent@inav.net -- http://soli.inav.net/~kent
