Not impossible. He just chooses to work with his ideas/sounds and or
samples a lot!
The majority of his "breaks" & or "beats" were constructed and composed on
a low-end Roland/Boss drum machine (as he so states in various
interviews......available on the net -just do some searches). Although I am
not an expert on his music or sampling methods, I would assume that he
probably uses samples of REAL drummers, and samples of just about anything
(that can be cut-up in a computer/sequencer and then re-assembled to form
new beats/breaks and drum fills).
Trust me.........I have played drums for 12 years and I do this everyday
with my MAC, Studio Vision Pro/Akai digital sampler and Recycle software.

The Amen break is definitely more of a "foundation" for drum n' bass than
the Funky Drummer break with hip hop.
