what are the ideal settings for home listening for a sl-1200mk2 turntable with a stanton 500al cartridge? it's important, that also records with 'tougher' grooves (such as the leo anibaldi on rephlex, plug's drum and bass for papa, the disjecta lp etc etc) can be played without skipping. i have set mine like this (i think it harms my records, that's why i would like some instructions): weight 2.5 height 1.2 anti-skating 2.5 Sire One Coupe Devil Graphics np: casual - this is how we rip sh*t

those kind of records suck :( what I do is I put the weight on with the gauge facing me, and then put it on most of the way and use 2.0 stylus pressure (what you have labelled as weight) and 0 height, but I have a Stanton Trackmaster, you should check your stylus, it should have come with papers that tell what settings of each you should use.. the anti-skating should usually always be set to the same amount as the stylus-pressure. now.. in order to play one of those records, badly pressed as they are I might add, i put the balance-weight on backwards (the gauge facing away) and put stylus pressure on 3, anti-skating on 3.. but that kindof increases the wear and tear on the records, so I only do this for those tracks that don't play otherwise.

Consider investing in you music by using a better cartridge. I'm picky about sound but mainly a CD person. So I've got my turntable from college, when I was picky on a tight budget -- a Grado cartridge that listed for over $200, but I was able to get it for about $125. I've really never had tracking problems like you describe, and at a little under 1.5 grams. Wouldn't scratch with it or anything, though. --Mark On Mon, 23 Jun 1997, The Rare Guy wrote:
