Background is an excellent label for those into tweaked- out techno with a nice experimental edge. I have all their releases so far. I think the Submania vs Ekmoah: low voltage double or the Todd Sines null eps are my favorites. The Low Voltage double sounds like some of the better gez varley/g-man stuff and sine's null ep has a cool dbx sound to it. The Kit Clayton 12", which came out in December if I'm not mistaken, is pretty good but not my favorite release on the label or from Clayton. This one has much less of a dub sound with more emphasis on driving percussive structures similar to the output on his own Delay label. Here is a Background label discography... . Have to respectfully disagree with Lance on his assessment of the Submania Vs. Ekmoah 2x12", which for me sounds like minimalism without the selectivity or the driving pulse. It just sounds like a couple of electronic clacks given a kick. I think that in this style of music it is a very fine line, and I can't always discern exactly why some things are too minimal and others not (for example I love the first three SND releases but I hated the Blir and the Shirt Trax output). But whatever it is, Submania has it. Haven't heard Todd Sines, but if it sounds like DB-X that's a very good thing (DB-X being some of the best minimal techno, in my ears).
