So, this afternoon, CNN ran a story on the works of SCANNER. I think he was in New York. Anyway he was performing for a small crowd and describing what he does. Basically, sampling telephone conversations via a scanner, then accompanying the manipulated sample with atmospheric noises and melodies. Scanner was pretty hip, and an interesting character. They asked him about the law forbidding the broadcasting or distribution of intercepted phone conversations. He countered that he was very careful to manipulate any samples to render them harmless. (Pitch shifting, distorting, etc.) I've got to hear his stuff....sounds cool. I know Nichole Blackman is a fan...whatever that means. C

It was an interesting interview; Scanner (I forget his real name) is a very articulate fellow. Well worth looking at even if you're not a Scanner fan (I find his stuff quite boring myself). "Big Life" also had a decent interview with Alec Empire a while back. It's one of the two shows on TV that I never want to miss. Emanuel.

I've got his latest album, 'Deliviry'. The music is pretty cool, though probably not idm, but when you realise your actually listening to other people's private conversation, it's great. ------------------------------------------------------- M a t h i a s V e r r a e s ET.phone.home@ThePentagon.com To me, truth is not some vague, foggy notion. Truth is real. And, at the same time, unreal. Fiction and fact and everything in between, plus some things I can't remember, all rolled into one big "thing." This is truth, to me. ------------------------------------------------------- chall@leonardo.net wrote:
