The Dance Day of the Essential Music Festival on Saturday was pretty damn excellent....but the best act of the whole day was Squarepusher without a doubt, even if he was only on for half an hour. An excellent performer and a brilliant sense of humour. I will look on his music in an entirely different light from now on. I took lots of photos (I was right at the front) so they'll go on my website if they came out ok. FSOL's ISDN broadcast was pretty cool too, lots of high speed graphics interspersed with slightly jerky live camera shots of them in their studio in London....it was pretty amazing, it all started off with Gary (I think) saying "London calling..." and everyone got up off the grass when they realised the gig was about to begin..."London calling" again came ringing out across the field, and then Gary appeared on the screens saying something like "Some may say this is a little impersonal, but we can see you........we can feel you...." and then a pause and "2 words.....fuck....Tribal" (as in, Tribal Gathering) and then some monster beats started up, with very fast and weird images, all new material as far as I could tell. What a day it was, and I got some stinking bad sunburn too...grrr won't be able to go outside for a few weeks now :) - Ben -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

Spot on , he was the best and the cheesiest ! I'd never seen him enjoy himself playing live as much as this. I thought the crowd reaction was funny too. Near the front, half the people were going nuts and the rest just standing there gob smacked. I spent a lot of time in the Wall Of Sound/Skint tent 'coz I wanted to see BRA. Before they came on there was a great old skool electo/funk DJ set by The Wiseguys then a great live set by Dirty Beatniks. Fat Boy Slim rocked the crowd (by now it was hot and heaving) then Bentley Rhythm Ace. Caught a bit of the Chems but I wasn't quite in the mood so I moved on to catch a bit of FSOL and the Orb too. Cool you were there too? I was right at the front on the left hand side of the stage.....might've seen you for all i know.... :) I took a lot of photos....funny, i only recognised two of the tracks he played "The Swifty" and "Cooper's World" the rest seemed like new material to me....and it was absolutely brilliant...i was definitely going nuts to it....did you hear the bit where there was this sample in one of the tunes he was playing and no-one could hear it properly so he turned all the sound off for one bar of music and shouted out what the sample said, (i can't remember exactly) but something like "Not that bad, sounds a bit like Goldie" I thought that was well funny!!! :) - Ben -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/
