I don't know if any of you are movie watchers, but Tricky played a substantial role in the "Fifth Element". Although I won't comment on the movie itself (I'm at a loss for words), I did find it interesting that Tricky would pick up acting like most musicians are these days. d

tricky turns out to be a much better actor than a musician, in fact! i was pleasantly surprised. on now: "the fifth element" soundtrack -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications How the drunk and the maimed both are dragged forward out of the arena like a boneless Christ, one man under each arm, feet dragging, eyes on the aether. So, who'd he play - Ruby? That was an amazing performance. I was too busy scanning the credits to see who played the General. Recognize him? I'll give you a hint - "Let me tell you about my mother!".

Well how is it? I thought it was pretty kick ass until the end credits. It must be a BITCH to do "music of the future", but I thought he nailed it on the second half of the Diva scene, which was one of the most amazing pieces of editing I've seen, with Leleru (or whatever her name is) kicking alien ass while the blue lady sings. It was so good I clapped. Must see again and again. Che

tricky was zorg's assistant (ie: the guy with the british accent).

brion james aka leon in blade runner... got that right off the bat.

yep, it's got that irritating end credit song at the start AND end of the CD, but a little judicious programming easily takes care of that. overall it's pretty cool. the ambient bits are really excellent - great synth sounds and fantastic production. some of the low rumbles make the walls shake. the first track, "mondoshawan," is pure abstract idm with lots of nice machine sounds and subdued drum beats. i kinda wish the rhythmic bits lasted longer, but this is all straight from the film so the cues are all on the short side. stuff that seemed longer on the screen (eg: the diva's dance) turns out to be 1:40 on disc! the one track i keep listening to is "ruby rap", which is very cheesy as a piece of audio, but was such a great moment in the film. it's basically the whole first section where Ruby ambushes Dallas and tries to interview him. i still can't believe they pulled that off. i've always liked eric serra's scores; even the james bond one which a lot of fans hated because it wasn't john barry-flavored orchestra.

i totally fucking loved this movie. i plan to go again and again, preferably while extremely high on dangerous and illegal drugs. -- Jon Drukman jsd@gamespot.com SpotMedia Communications How the drunk and the maimed both are dragged forward out of the arena like a boneless Christ, one man under each arm, feet dragging, eyes on the aether. BTW, Eric Serra did the music for the film. He's collaborated with Luc Besson for years, check out his scores for La Femme Nikkita and The Professional. Quite nice stuff, all electronic music - he has an instantly recognizable style with lots of washy synths and strange percussion samples. He also did the soundtrack for Goldeneye, which i wasn't too thrilled about. Wasn't very bondish. _____ / ,-,_) /,_) (/ RESH Live & Direct from the G-Spot, Orange County, California, USA http://www1.linkonline.net/fresh/fresh.htm

I believe Milla (Jovovich, the Ukrainian model/musician/actress who plays the ideal being, surprise, surprise) was also supposed to sing on at least one song from the soundtrack. Did this come to pass or no? 3

He also did the music for Subway (another Besson film). Absolutely brilliant. It was one of the reasons I started getting into IDM. And probably the best film Lambert has been in (not hard). Hello bye bye, my first e to the list in 2 years. See you in another 2. Steve "Earwig" Briggs. P.S. Would that be Brion Jones' ? James' mother. P.P.S.
