Before I take this to another irrelevant place that should'nt waste IDM's time, I will clarify and correct for the sake of education: I apologize in advance to IDM for breaking the subject(s), but I refuse to remain silent until an issue is resolved. CAN ALL POSTS TO FOLLOW ON THIS SUBJECT PLEASE BE POSTED TO ME PRIVATELY? WE ( YES, ME INCLUDED! ) ARE WASTING ALL OF IDM'S TIME WITH THIS THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in re: ========================================================= Date: Thu, 8 May 1997 10:41:30 -0400 From: Chris Fahey <chris@wanderlust.com> Subject: RE: (idm) Genesis P.Orridge From what I understand, Gen was part of some kind of serious crypto-fascist movement, if only on the fringes. The kind of scene where the far right intersects with the radical bohemian lifestyle, hating society so much that you want to impose your own absurd order on it. "Betray knowledge of the obscenity of violence?" I don't know the whole scene all to well, but this seems a little generous. Correct me if I'm wrong, but anyone who chooses to hang out with Boyd Rice doesn't deserve my generosity. If you're saying he *wouldn't* fight because he just plain *couldn't* fight, well, I doubt that too. Although Gen is a scrawny wimpy mofo, I've found that being being unable to fight doesn't preclude you from wanting to pick fights. - -CF ========================================================= I am very glad that you honestly stated "I don't know the scene all too well". At least this gives us some background. If you look at my original posting, you will see that I was putting the TG/Genesis thing out as a parallel to an IDM related discussion concerning copywright. As with many threads on this list, the tangents are birthed and then the game of telephone begins. Now I'm having to stand up for ideas concerning Genesis P Orridge?...on IDM? Oh well, I'm not suprised. This was the hotbed of Marylyn Manson blather, why not TG? Two points for educations sake: Again, thanks for stating your lack of "scene knowledge". Firstly, Genesis and Boyd Rice chose to "hang out" and were friends some 10-18 years ago, Though I cannot tell you the exact date(s) when their friendships were severed, I can say that it was A LONG FUCKING TIME AGO! I would make an educated guess that their friendships were on the way out when Boyd's visions/politics/aesthetics were further and further pushing towards a serious embrace of racism, facism, and violence ( though the roots of this go way back ). So...please know that Boyd and Gen are not goose stepping together nowadays. And, anyone who chooses to hang out with Boyd Rice does not deserve *MY* generosity either. As times have changed and so have people ( including Gen ) I have not written him off my generosity list. Secondly, my quote : "My knowledge of Genesis is that he has accute knowledge of the psychology of violence and its obscenity and would never, ever betray that knowledge." I still stand behind this. If anyone has thoroughly understood the absurdity and obscenity of violence, it is he. By facing the issue of violence through a concentration of it's horror, he has done what few artists/musicians have done...to challenge and understand it as opposed to merely emulate it's spectacle ( like the generation of Industrial artists that have followed in his footsteps.) As far as fighting goes, geez. I realy don't know how to further postulate the fighting abilities of Genesis P Orridge. Remember my original post? This was rooted in a British music industry rumor! I realy just don't have the time or interest to defend this one. And, if you don't know the scene all too well, then what makes you so angry about Genesis? "A scrawny, wimpy, mofo"?? This is some heated language. np: The Roots:: Illadelph HalfLife nxt: 3rd Eye Foundation: Ghost bpm0@interport.net Peter Becker, Promotions: Retail, DJ Pool Asphodel Records, NYC PO Box 51, Chelsea Station, NY NY 10113 Phone # (212) 965-0265 FAX # (212) 965-0959 http://www.asphodel.com
