Greetings,
My name is Kelly Money, I am currently the Executive Director (elect) for a
non-profit, incorporated company called the EMCC, located in Winnipeg,
Manitoba, Canada.
The EMCC is a collective of over 30 local producers of electronic music,
including myself, which came together over a year ago in order to develop
and promote the electronic talent we have discovered. Our
music is as diverse as the people within our city, as our artists produce
everything from ambient, experimental, hardcore, and triphop, to trance,
house, techno, and drum and bass. This is a phenomenon rarely seen in the
other cities I have travelled to, and I am excited about its possibilities.
Over the last year, we have released 2 compilations of music produced by
our members, as well as held 3 events which showcased our live talent.
Both with great success.
We are currently producing a webpage, and once it has been launched, we
will be sending out presskits which will include our mission statement,
member bios, and contact information. We are very interested in showcasing
our scene within all electronic music oriented websites, or integrating
them with our site. We also seek new members across Canada and the United
States who wish to be a part of this idea, or wish to start something
similar in other cities.
We also seek to start relationships with labels, magazines, producers,
donators, investors, and other artists who are interested in our
philosophy, which is, to promote ourselves as a community and utilize our
joined knowledge of the industry in order to succeed. If even one of our
artists is able to make a living by creating music, we will have
accomplished our goal.
The future for the EMCC has been planned into 3 stages:
1. Developing the business strategy, incorporating, recruitment, raising
funds through a small membership fee paid by the artist, releasing
compilations and holding event showcases. (complete, and continuing)
2. Designing our webpage (which will include member bios, contact
information, an online store and listening booth, and artist showcases),
sending out presskits, developing contacts across North America and Europe
and making ties to the worldwide electronic music community. (currently
underway)
3. Education, and development of our local scene, aquiring private and
public grants, which will be distributed amongst our members to support
their efforts, building a professional recording studio, and holding a
nation-wide tour of live talent. (ETA 6-24 months)
The EMCC has an executive decision-making body consisting of myself and 6
others, each with their own responciblities, such as Public Relations,
Production, Education, Legal, and Accounting. We hold general
meetings in order to receive feedback from our members, develop new ideas
and address concerns.
I wish to develop a correspondance with anyone who appreciates our
collective's enthusiasm, and our city's need for development and promotion.
