Some bunch called "Never Records" in New York City have re-issued the Reload "A Collection Of Short Stories" album. I know this isn't news but the contents contained therein is: surely this album (originally released in 1993, as far as I can tell) is just about the greatest slab of IDM ever. I don't think anything has bowled me over upon first listen (yup, I'd never gotten my slimy little hands on a copy before now) like this sucker did, except maybe for "Tango n' Vectif" or "Analogue Bubblebath 3" or the like. Stupendous beyond all belief; the tracks "Mosh" and the closer "Event Horizon" must surely be the greatest tracks Richard James never wrote. Mark and Tom are coming to San Francisco this weekend (to play with Eon and Depth Charge!!!) and I will surely kiss their feet for this record alone. I can almost forgive them stuff like "The Way/The Deep" with a record this phenomenal in their canon. (-: 10+ - Greg

I'm not much on "the greatest ever" -- the "greatest ever" record I'll buy will be the last one I really like before I die. It is quite a wonderful disk though, and I was glad to grab it before infonet pulled the plug. Nice to hear it's been re-issued.

I thought The Way/The Deep was very cool. The GC boys are deep studies -- if they're going to do a deep house disk, they're going to do it proper, and they did. If you were hoping for a new album and then listened to all those mixes of the same two cuts back to back I can imagine you being disappointed. But The Way/The Deep kicks. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Kent Williams kent@inav.net -- http://soli.inav.net/~kent

Le Soleil et la mer is the one that stands out most for me....an incredible track with an incredible black dog rmx................... Im sorry to put a dampner on things but i really wouldnt get too excited about anything they do live, i saw them in Sheffield and at Oscillate in Birmingham and they were appaling, ive had similar reports from everyone whos seen them DJ or perform live. -- k.F All your Children are poor unfortunate victims of systems beyond their control, a plague upon your ignorance and the gray despair of your ugly life. One of them, for sure. It's funny how any mid-tempo synthy breakbeat track still gets described as 'reminiscent of Le Soleil Et La Mer', that shows how influential this record was. And what TBD did with that track still turns me inside out.

They are scheduled to perform at Manchester's Prescription night in May, under the Jedi Knights name. See you there.

How disappointing! Is this how the rest of idm feels about their house material? Personally it has made this year just about bearable for me, The Way/The Deep is undeniable genius. I don't think people realise how important the work Global Communication are doing in this field is - they are turning on *masses* of dance music fans, who wouldn't normally go beyond MAW-type material, onto something extremely new (and I don't need to hear some anti-house poke from anyone out there - see beyond the drum patterns, PLEASE..) Not one person I have played The Way/The Deep, Catch The Break, the Secret Ingredients records or the Chameleon tracks to has had a bad word to say about them. Completely accessible, but with more depth, honesty and emotional dynamics than, well, almost anything the purist idm overlord labels have ever put out.
