Romanthony is known primarity for a string of stylish house 12". His
stuff is right up against the edge of cheesy vocal house, without falling
over.
So why would anyone on IDM care about a double CD from Romanthony?
The best explanation came from Kirk at the Record Collector "it's the
record that Prince would make if Prince still mattered."
Disk one starts off with a Firesign Theater-style audio playlet about
a guy going to 'Romanworld' -- which is apparently the sub-sub-basement
of a department store that sells "Pop commercialities, Sellout Specialties,
Major Label Items."
From there on out, Romanthony sets out to genre bust, throwing in
blues, jazz, house, soul, and ambient in a relaxed seamless mishmash.
This is music made by a musican -- not a DJ with a drum machine and an
attitude.
So as far as I know, this is the first jazz/blues/house/soul/ambient concept
album. And it's damn good. Any questions.
