I don't care how commercial this CD is, but I love the new Chemical Brothers "Digging Your Own Hole". "Elektrobank" is worth the price of the CD alone with a furious beat, "it doesn't matter" plods MBM'ish territory, and "the private psychedelic reel" is just plain weird. So how many copies have sold in the U.S. so far? It's charting on the Billboard chart, though I haven't seen the latest issue. A record store owner claims that Astralwerks is claiming 80,000 units sold in the first week, while SoundScan scanned about 50,000. Will it crack 200,000? I am just amused to see this on full display in Tower, Media Play, The Wiz, and Coconuts. Have we reached the saturation point? Paul Rafanello intone@warwick.net

Interesting thought... I'd say we've reached the breakthrough point. As I recall, the last Chemicals album was available overseas (UK side) for quite some time before becoming domestically available here. I remember buying just about all the singles before actually finding the album buried away at Tower. And now, just a short year or so later, I'm able to buy the newest Chemicals album at midnight release day. I dunno about anyone else, but that fact alone impresses the hell out of me. j'entende: local radio playing some classic tracks. -- guyjr@ns.gt.ed.net | I.D.M.- That stage in sleeping when your feet are a.k.a., Guy Elden, Jr. | moving faster than your eyes.

i only ever liked a few interesting tracks on the chem bros first LP, and even those were pretty silly.. but i took a listen to the new one that my friend bought and i think it is utter crap. i hated every song on there! why anyone would buy it, let alone why it would be popular just gives me so many more reasons to think that the mainstream music-buying audience has no taste.. and even when electronic music gets into the picture, that doesnt change! quite depressing. -dan

they're expecting to sell 500,000. so those sales are pretty poor. g.
