Ok i'm back from India, and stopped by in NYC on the way back
(Bangalore-->Bombay-->Frankfurt-->NYC-->SFO is a hell of a ride to do
without a break!).
Anyways, For the past year or so I've been looking for a CD release by
the group "Rockers Hi-Fi" including their album "Rockers to Rockers"...
well I finally found it at this little CD shop in the E-Village (it's
out on Island's "Geestreet Independent" sub-label). I'm sure y'all have
heard DJ Garth or maybe Spun play this song "Rockers to Rockers" in the
past with a reggae-backbeat, heavy bass, and vocals that go
"bop-bop-bop-...-ba-bop-pa-day" and say "rockers" during a little
breakdown. It was a heavily played track back in like 93. (Nothing like
trying to describe a group's sound by text)...
Now I need more sounds like this. Anybody have any more recommendations
in the style of this group? A dubby Reggae influenced sound verging
towards techno/house. This stuff is dancefloor suitable cuz it's about
120BPM. (Yeah, I know about jungle, I know that Meat Beat Manifesto, Renegade Soundwave, Dee
Patten, and sometimes Leftfield and even the Orb sometimes go in this
direction. Others? I'm particularly looking for stuff on CD (singles,
albums, compilations).
