Now on my radiowalkman : a preview of some drum'n bass tracks taken from In Order to Dance 6. They sound promising but the compilation won't be out before february 96 :-( For now R&S has only released 'Vintage' a quick Xmass compilation with some /essential/ tracks... So long, //)ominique

At last ! Nearly 2 years after the last one : check this out (pasted from the r&s site) : IN ORDER TO DANCE 6 SESSION ONE: DRUM 'N' BASS The first edition of the sixth volume in the R & S Records compilation series In Order To Dance concentrates on today's thriving drum 'n' bass genre, which the label has been championing for quite some time now. Released on May 13th, the album (available on quadruple vinyl and double CD) is intended as the first part of a triptych which brings together a collection of the finest techno, drum 'n' bass and experimental dance music. Compiled by label founder Renaat Vandepapeliere, In Order To Dance 6/Session One: Drum 'n' Bass bears witness to the diversity and technical sophistication of the avant-garde jungle currently being produced by a new school of contemporary musicians. With a plethora of featured artists including Kenny Larkin, Free Hand, Justice, Flytronix, DJ Pulse, Ken Ishii, Lemon D, TMF, Locust, Jazz Juice (Alex Reece & Wax Doctor), Skin Divers Featuring Aqua Sky, Shogun, Mystic Moods, Wax Doctor, The Original Playboy, Model 500, Jacob's Optical Stairway and Lemon D, several tracks on In Order To Dance 6/Session One: Drum 'n' Bass highlight the close links between drum 'n' bass and techno (Alex Reece's superb bass-heavy hard-step interpretation of Model 500's The Flow, Jacob's Optical Stairway's jazz-fused breakbeat masterpiece Solar Feelings,...), while the album also includes exclusive remixes and many previously unreleased tracks covering a broad range of breakbeat flavours. The artists represented have been chosen for their creativity, maturity and imminent potential to shape the future sound of dance music. The second edition (or 3session2) of the In Order To Dance 6 triptych, scheduled for release in the autumn, will focus on the techno side of R & S' rich catalogue, while the third will be compiled from demos submitted by young, unsigned talent among the buyers of the two previous editions. To top off the whole saga, a limited edition luxury record case and a CD-ROM containing everything you ever wanted to know, see and hear in relation to R & S Records and its artists will be available to subscribers only. And..don't forget you can download the free In Order To Dance 6 Screen Saver for Windows 95 right here! Hi! I just got the "In Order To Dance 6 - session one" double CD, and I was a bit disapointed. Mostly half-interesting, half-hearted junglish tracks. I had to wait until one of the last tracks on disc 1 until I heard a something that *I* would have called jungle... But the second disc was better, it contained mostly laidback, jazzy drum'n'bass. I also got the Richie Hawtin: 1/96 12". Very minimal and dead cool! Cool concept too! Can't wait to get the others... Also, since Bjork have been discussed a lot here the last week: The track on LFO's Advance CD called "Shove Pig Shove" is the instrumental version of the Bjork track "I Go Humble", a brilliant bonus track on the Isobel CD-single (produced by Bell, naturally...) Well, the disclaimer on the LP box said that the session two will be dedicated to techno and the session three to demos. So they should be more a bit more interesting if d & b is not your cup of tea, and I seem to quite agree with you about half-heartedness... Give me the beautiful fucked-upness of Photek and Squarepusher instead any day! :)

i saw in order to dance vol 6 "drum & bass" the other day, picked it up.. Although I've only listened to it a few times, isn't quite to my liking. A little poppy, not very funky (which is a large part for me) and the songs generally don't go anywhere, nor are they very stimulating. This might be a little harsh, and as I said haven't listened to it too much. --brett
