wow, i thought i was the only person in the world with a copy of this album. (paid a small fortune for it on CD but it was worth every penny). yes, that album really rules. african head chargetribal drumming, programmed beats, sherwood's impeccable production, and some great late 80's pop tunes as well... -- Jon Drukman / jsd@gamespot.com / SpotMedia Communications

Hey, that's funny, me too. I heard their track on the first Total comp and was totally (no pun int.) blown away. Great jazz-rock-industrial, just like the Clock DVA of old. Hunted down the album like there was no tomorrow and finally found a copy for $25 - a LOT for the poor student that I was.

Amazing how different it is from their alter ego Flux of Pink Indians too... Ashok

Wow. I've seen at least 2 copies on CD used for about 2.99 ;) There's also a noise classic by flux called "the fucking pricks treat us like cunts, the fucking cunts treat us like pricks" double LP that shows some of the roots that lead to the great uncarved block album. Tony

I have a vague recollection of a story. Not sure if it is true. Mr Sherwood went out and did the work on the Flux album. The actual band Flux of Pink Indians wasn't really pleased with that. Something to do with an anti-electronics attitude at that time. As I understand it this band came out of the Crass community. Aren't they the ones who later set up One Little Indian ? I now remember hearing 'Uncarved Block' on the radio, and being real excited that Flux was coming to play the Paradiso. Only it turned out to be Flux of Pink Indians (the band) and they weren't very good, IMO. Nope, we have it too. Actually got introduced to it via Rave Ogilvie's wife, who taped it for us. Good thing too, it probably never would have occurred to me to buy it as I knew it sprang from the mouth of former Crass acolytes Flux Of Pink Indians, and I never would have guessed that it contained wonders inside which bore no resemblance to Crass-style Punk music. Getting a bit afield of roots-of-IDM though, so enough of this from me ... - Greg

Actually, another Crass offshoot, Eve Libertine, used quite a few analog synths on some tracks for weird rhythmic synth-bubbling noises. Crass was hard-headed workingclass (really though? ;) ) punk that was at times very artistically open-minded. I used to have the Flux lp in question also. I became a bit tired of the gated drums and vocals, preferring Perennial Divide to give me the tribal beats and snare rolls. The cover was wallpapered with corporate logos; always liked that concept connected to that music. Nice graphics. solenoid@europa.com <------+

Correct me if I am wrong, but Trent Resnore also didn't like the job Adrian Sherwood did on his early recording...if so...another blow against Resnore... _____________________________ ~bleep~
