This is way gone, and I thought some of the track selections were odd
anyway. A good sampler for the early material is _The Living Legends_.
It's all the single sides (A & B) from Rough Trade. _Listen Up_, a 2 CD
comp, covers comp tracks & unreleased material from the beginning until
about '89. Not quite as strong (it's onstensibly for collectors and
completists), but a solid and more thorough overview of their various
phases of development.
The two best albums from the period covered on _Golden Moments_ are
probably _Red Mecca_ and _2x45_, both still available as Mute reissues.
_Voice of America_ also has a lot of creepy charm, but the sound is more
primitive. For all of these earlier records, though, I think you'll
notice the huge influence on Skinny Puppy in particular -- but it
certainly shows that current scene has some grounding in this material.
