This is the first Squarepusher record I've bought, so bare with me, I have listened to quite a few tracks from Feed Me Weird Things: Squarepusher: Vic Acid - 1. Vic Acid (Hard and Normal Mix) I love this track, some pretty choppy breaks, awesome bassline. I reckon there's a reason why this is called Vic Acid (not only this track). It's full of acid-type sounds and wicked schlaps. :S 2. Lone Raver (Live in Chelmsform Mix) This track makes me think about what would happen if some of that good ol' 303 acid stuff met drum'n'bass, something I've actually been thinking about doing, but this not exactly what I had in mind. IMO Vic Acid and this are the best tracks on the ep. Is that a crowd I hear at the end? 3. Fat Controller (G7000 Remix) The beginning of this sounds like the sound of popcorn popping put through some serious distortion. This sound seems to be modulated in a similar way to the way sounds are modulated in Goa, except this is certainly not Goa. Lots of beeps, bleeps, and acidlines. What's this? There's a kind melody at the end of this. Most d&b melodies are somewhat mean, but this one is really nice. More popcorn popping at the end. Funny, the label on this side (b-side) of the record shows what looks like a bunch of popcorn. 3.5 Huh.. A track between 3 and 4. Ouch, sounds like someone scratching a chalkboard, and it actually reproduced the sound.. The wonder of modern technology. This lasts only about 6 seconds btw. 4. The Barn (303 Kebab Mix) This is more like what you would call acid-trance/house, at least it's not drum'n'bass, at least not in MY opinion. Some 303 riffs with some drums over the top. There's some house-breaks towards the end of this track. This track is okay, it's not too special. hmm.. With a second look, that popcorn on the b-side's label loooks like that teddybear on the front of the sleeve. Oh no, not more teddybears ;) Actually it looks a little more like a mouse. Now we'll see RDJ and µ-Ziq get in a mouse costume and duke it out on-stage at Squarepusher gigs. This is simply brilliant, this now stands as one of my favorite records. -- __ __\ \ Aurafix aka Hillie / PHD ^ DAMONES (aka Rare Guy) / /_\ \ http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html \_____/ >> buh@clark.net >> < > .. >> .<>> >> > , m7= inducing mindwaves.. electronic techno muuusik controlled manually by a p h e x t wi n .. .. . . .

Um, why not check out Squarepusher's Conumber EP from 1995 in which he incorporates 303 with drum and bass. (in other words....he's done it before now) -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

I've noticed that there was a domestic release of Reload: A Collection of Short Stories. -- __ __\ \ Aurafix aka Hillie / PHD ^ DAMONES (aka Rare Guy) / /_\ \ http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html \_____/ >> buh@clark.net >> < > .. >> .<>> >> > , m7= inducing mindwaves.. electronic techno muuusik controlled manually by a p h e x t wi n .. .. . . .

The track vic acid has very good, choppy, breaks, the kind you'd expect from squarepusher. Not that they sound stale or overused, you understand. A nice bassline runs throughout the song, and becomes heavily distorted a few measures in. Check warpnet for a sample, in real audio form.

This track seems very hard, fast, and yet danceable. It definatly possesses an acid meets drum and bass quality. The 303 line is very abrupt, and at one point in the song it almost sounds like it is cut up a la the drums. Incidentally, yes that's a crowd. :)

The beeps and bleeps remind me very much of the beeps and bleeps on track 3 of the new aphex record. They have a quality about them that reminds me of a malfunctioning r2d2. Then the melody comes in, very abrupt and unexpected like. The melody is, in my opinion, very beautiful. The first time I heard it it made me smile uncontrollably. Then it drops out, and, as already stated, there are more bleeps and sonic "popcorn popping".

This is part of track 4, an introduction of sorts.

I concur. Last and least, but not to be overlooked nonetheless. The 303 riff is catchy, and becomes even more so as it morphs near the end of the song.

It's a good record, but I think squarepusher has done better: to this day I can't get the jazz flavored jams of Port Rhombus out of my head. Problem Child is one of my favorite Squarepusher tracks, the bassline gets me every time I listen to it. andy -- andrew j shay contact bobtj@wwa.com

i have to agree with this. i really like vic acid so far (only really had time to listen to it twice), especially fat controller, but the first time i heard it, the lack of jenkinson's bass playing hit me. i hope that he hasn't given it up. alan! np:mike patton:adult themes for voice (this is a truly fucked up disc) __ :::::/\ \:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::/ \ \::::::you make the mistake::::::::::: :::/ /\ \ \:::::you judge a man by his race:::: ::/ / /\ \ \::::you go through life:::::::::::: :/ / /__\_\ \:::with egg on your face:::::::::: / / /________\::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: \/___________/::::::::::-beastie boys::::::::::

Theres some real classy bass on the new LP, everyone who didnt like Vic Acid but liked 'Feed m wierd...' will probably dig hard normal daddy, everyone who does like Vic-acid but didnt like 'Feed...' will probably not like hard normal daddy but will be wrong, thats as concise as im gonna get. kF
