for anybody interested in a couple of reviews, they're at the bottom. here is my rant: i think the main reason this list has gone to shit is that too many people post one-line :) responses which needlessly continue threads which were idiotic to begin with. i could name names, but that's really not necessary. as a rule, i only post to this list if a) i have some new records which have not been mentioned which i think people would like to know about, b) i have some infor- mation of a similar quality or c) i can answer a question someone has posted which i don't think anyone else will be able to answer. oh, and i sometimes ask questions myself. (and yes, i'm aware this rant contains none of the above. sorry.) anyways, just think before you make a one-line response to a thread, or spout a lecture on some dead-horse topic: how many people out of 800+ across the globe will really want to read this? as promised, some comments about some old records i came into recently. some good american music here -- no need to pay import prices born under a rhyming planet - analog heaven EP (+8) nice experimental techno 4-tracker from vassar college radio honcho jamie hodge who has also recorded for esteemed american smallie plug research. not as sonically varied as his later spasm band EP but nice skittering intelligent house rhythms rub shoulders with slow melodies and analog clicks and "dits". a little distant at first but nicely done. bonus info: jamie hodge recently said on 313 that he's working on a project for source records which will include some guy who played drums for don cherry back in the day as well as david moufang (i think). innerzone orchestra - bug in the bassbin (Planet E) reissue of old carl craig track, also re-released with much fanfare on mo wax. the original is four bars of truly amazing drum sample (*tasty* brushed snares) and sub-bass but alas little else, as the track just repeats over and over with some strange drifting organ/synth stabs on top. the 'jazz version' on the flip is a well-intentioned remake with live drums and bass going underneath those same synth/organ stabs. overall, great ideas, so-so execution. ummm. green velvet - portamento tracks (relief) how did this get in here? about as un-canonical IDM as they come, but still fun. stripped-down thumpin house with a few tricks up the sleeve, strange rhythms and nicely done tweaky shit. i also dig the mumbled vocals. honorable mention goes to i-f vs. tn (murdercapital 001) it's dutch, it's hard as hell to find, but have a poke around. 6 tracks of dope minimal electro, one side more hip-hoppy and one side more technoish. yummy acid. that's all she wrote nick
