i think that there are artists who's drive for artistic expression is grounded only in economic (or social) struggle. when their struggle succeeds in getting them paid (or friends), their inspiration deflates thereby. they can still continue to produce, but it's obvious when there's something missing which is hard to accept, remembering how good the older stuff is and thinking that genius automatically follows genius. eric

in saying that the struggle is "only" grounded in economic struggle, i'm not minimizing the difficulty or unfairness of any particular situations, just that it is a struggle that can usually be solved for the individual through large paychecks. eric np: drexciya "bubble metropolis" (UR)
