C (A1) Snackwitch
D (B1) Mag
pretty good (for most folk, extremely SUBPAR though, for B&B) two-tracker here,
'snackwich' is a low-fi spy show deal, sounding like something from 70s TV cop show
with some chocked-up hip-hoppery over the top. 6 minutes of monotonous retro.
plays pretty good at 33 AND 45.
'mag' (8 min @45rpm) is simpler, laid-back ('snackwich' comes at ya!), more
beat-oriented. the beats and subtle synth tones sort of play (bounce) off each other
in a rather playful (hip hop, hop hip) manner, but the overall sound is nice. my
advice? play it LOUD with the top down. twas my fave of the two upon immediately
hearing it. now, i think they're both pretty cool and could never get sick of them
(ok, skamaholic here i'll admit).
neither tune could possibly top the electro perfection of "go sumo" (from "sounds of
machines") or the serene, atmospheric prowess of the "amber"esque "cicada" (from
gescom 1 on skam). both those releases seem more other-worldly to me, 'mag' has a
more detroit feel to it but, obviously, not as minimal-house-sounding as the "motor"
ep (my least fave of the lot). 'snackwich' has to be one of the more unique sounding
GESCOM tunes around (less "key nell" of course, that would be their MASTERPIECE i'd
say...far and away!) but it can get a tad monotonous. both though, have a rather
'straight' up approach to their structure....less abstract i guess you could say.
not your typical gescom.
