I am hopefully picking this up, but know nothing about it... Gescom 'Snackwitch/Mag' 12" Is this out on Skam (sorry, have yet to check the discography and was hoping for a little more info...) and when was it released? And how does it compare to the three first Gescom eps that I hear so much about? thanks! __________________________________________ sfwd@sonic.net wasted time in mass abundance

Yes. SKA03. I think James' SKAM discography is unsure of the concrete date.

2 tracks of hard hip-hop; some samples from Gescom2 were very evident throughout the Ae radio show on Warpnet. Mediocre tracks at best; I think this is the least liked Gescom release, probably the least liked Booth/Brown release. It's OK, but there's very little progression in the tracks. They both start suddenly and never seem to go anywhere. This also seems to be the easiest to find Gescom 12". There were over 15 of them last time I visited Bill's. grant.h.horne http://delta.is.tcu.edu/~ghhorne/

SKAM RECORDS...yes. from mr skilton's discog (soon to be juiced up by f r e s h) (oh my, someELSE pulling a 'gonz' and i'm not gonz!) anyway, as i was reporting... SKA03 :::: Gescom (Conspirators: Sean Booth, Rob Brown and A.Maddocks) :::: 25/3/95? :::: 12" C (A1) Snackwitch D (B1) Mag pretty good (for most folk, extremely SUBPAR though, for B&B) two-tracker here, 'snackwich' is a low-fi spy show deal, sounding like something from 70s TV cop show with some chocked-up hip-hoppery over the top. 6 minutes of monotonous retro. plays pretty good at 33 AND 45. 'mag' (8 min @45rpm) is simpler, laid-back ('snackwich' comes at ya!), more beat-oriented. the beats and subtle synth tones sort of play (bounce) off each other in a rather playful (hip hop, hop hip) manner, but the overall sound is nice. my advice? play it LOUD with the top down. twas my fave of the two upon immediately hearing it. now, i think they're both pretty cool and could never get sick of them (ok, skamaholic here i'll admit). neither tune could possibly top the electro perfection of "go sumo" (from "sounds of machines") or the serene, atmospheric prowess of the "amber"esque "cicada" (from gescom 1 on skam). both those releases seem more other-worldly to me, 'mag' has a more detroit feel to it but, obviously, not as minimal-house-sounding as the "motor" ep (my least fave of the lot). 'snackwich' has to be one of the more unique sounding GESCOM tunes around (less "key nell" of course, that would be their MASTERPIECE i'd say...far and away!) but it can get a tad monotonous. both though, have a rather 'straight' up approach to their structure....less abstract i guess you could say. not your typical gescom. asg
