Rhino has a CD out called Electric Funk Part 1 which has PLanet Rock on it. Tommy Boy re-issues both the single, the re-mixes and their best-of compilation from time to time. As for the Coldcut, MARRS, etc. stuff...never seen anything like it. Sounds like an excellent idea to have it all on one platter... _____________________________ ~bleep~

Well, I don't see "Rhino" on here anywhere, but I found these two gems on Priority (released last year): Electro Funk Volume One Priority Records P2 53114 Released 1996 1. Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force - "Planet Rock" 2. World Class Wreckin' Cru - "Juice" 3. Trinere - "I Know You Love Me" 4. Pretty Tony - "Jam The Box" 5. Freestyle - "The Party Has Just Begun" 6. Cli-N-Tel - "2030" 7. Planet Patrol - "Play At Your Own Risk" 8. Uncle Jam's Army - "Dial-A-Freak" 9. Orbit - "The Beat Goes On" 10. Twilight 22 - "Electric Kingdom" 11. Egyptian Lover - "Girls" 12. D.J. Matrix - "Feel My Bass" 13. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - "Scorpio" Electro Funk Volume Two Priority Records P2 53115 Released 1996 1. Cybotron - "Clear" 2. Divine Sounds - "What People Do For Money" 3. Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious Five - "Message II (Survival)" 4. Jamie Jupiter - "Computer Power" 5. Debbie Deb - "When I Hear Music" 6. Pretty Tony - "Fix It In the Mix" 7. Reggie Griffin & Technofunk - "Mirda Rock" 8. World Class Wreckin' Cru - "Surgery" 9. Nairobi and The Awesome Foresome - "Funky Soul Makossa" 10. Afrika Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force - "Looking For The Perfect Beat" 11. Egyptian Lover - "Egypt Egypt" Some classic jams on these ... and I think I got 'em for like US $9.99 each ... And the fold-out insert has complete info on the original sources including liner notes. Not too shabby ... Oh yeah ... and what was the ultra-cool rekkid store I scored 'em at? K-Mart. - Greg

exists c/o tommy boy records in several formats: reissue CDSingle cat # TBCD823, w/ full length, bonus beats, & instrumental (i.e. the werks) an entire CD of planet rock mixes - with 808 State & a few others, can't recall exactly both on vinyl as well - i think these should still be fairly easy to find and fairly cheap -- signifier over signified signing off --

There is a curious pair of CD's on Priority Records -- Electro Funk Volume 1 and 2. Volume 1 leads of with 'Planet Rock' and Volume 2 leads off with 'Clear' by Cybotron. Priority Record P2 53115 is volume II -- I don't have volume one in front of me to give the cat #. These came out last year. They have some cheesy cuts on them, but several good tracks, and seem to me to provide some context to the whole electro thing. I'd love to have some of the 2 Live Crew records without the excremental rapping over the top. Luther may have a world class potty mouth but he knows his beats. They're playing a Electro cut on B96 in Chicago -- something called "Freak Nasty" or some such -- much sexual innuendo over a classic 808 beat. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "i love the smell of new carpet. it makes me dizzy. just like when you fall in love." -- Mike Dvorkin Home Page, featuring Reagan on Black Velvet, the EMP Compilation CD, samples of my music, etc http://soli.inav.net/~kent/ Kent Williams kent@inav.net CADSI 2651 Crosspark Road Coralville IA 52241 (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3488 (fax)

I prefer the Electro Funk comps on Rhino. 4 in the series...the first two are the best... _____________________________ ~bleep~
