i haven't seen too many reviews lately, and very few mention of these discs, so here's a go at reviewing 'em. i tried not to be too critical (if just to keep them relatively short), but do give honest opinions. 2 short reviews: aii3 and 4 Overall I'd like to say they were a decent pair, the art/packaging is neat (color one sided sheet in plastic sleeve), and the price ($6 a shot, i believe) can't be beat. I look forward to the future output of the label (go a.deck!) . Joshua Treble - parasol ep [aii 3] EP clocks in at 27:22, and has 6 tracks. I wont go through a track-by-track rundown though. Its mainly downtempo, rather drone like, and repititious (in a "thats enough of that") sort of way. I have given this disc several spins and it has yet to grab me. its decent, but something is missing. Track 3 i enjoyed, and tracks 5 and 6 (an accelera deck remix) are kinda neat in the beat area, but the other tracks are "just ok". I think i just didn't dig the drone-type noises throughout though, so take that into account. @ the $6 price i wasn't too dissappointed, but i doubt this will get spins at my house too much longer. . Saint 13 EP [aii 4] EP clocks in at 36:59 with 4 tracks (all nameless). The first track on this ep i thought set me up for the rest, as its along the lines of the ae inspired sound set (basic weird noises that had a structure, which deteriorated into quiter beatless noises)... then track 2 came up and reversed that thought with a track that reminded me of sybarite (who did a 7 on emanate) in its good use of melody and with the guitar (in a really good way, ala sybarite). Track 3 went back to the idm standard of odd noises and all, but i found it much better then the first track (though it does have this repetitious flute-type noise which gets annoying, maybe just too loud in the mix). Track 4 finishes out the album by bringing in the beat. This track definately hits a groove, has a good melody line in it, and actually holds my attention for its 8 minute duration. Overall i give this album a thumbs up just on the strength of tracks 2 and 4 alone. thanks, mike ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
