this is some stuff I cannot stop playing at the moment -
'Blue Light' - Paul W. Teebrooke
This is odd.. The production is very difficult sounding, not dynamic like a
good dance track, but it has some deep funk in it. I hear a lot of soul in
this music.
'P.S.K' - Schooly D
The whole LP is a masterpiece, but I picked this track because of the truly
experimental ideas in the mix. Similar to Aphex Twin in the presentation of
maximal percussion, but very realist and external sounding, as opposed to
Aphex's psychology beats. A breath of fresh air.
'Kind Of Blue (24K Gold edition)' - Miles Davis
Improvised, outstanding works of vision.
'Madeleine' - The Durutti Column
...important track...
'Tzaddi' - The Black Dog
Only the first 20 seconds, but still, it's good. Ken might not have Plaid's
bombastic percussion or chord technique, but their recent material doesn't
make me feel *good* like this does. Same goes for Kheprit, which works
throughout the track. Essential viewing.
'Crouched On Broken Glass' - Bedouin Ascent
there are a thousand ways to interpret this track. It's great that people
are working with short tracks now, this way we can find quite unexpected
parallels with other styles of music, but this is a very long (18 minutes?)
and simple track that absolutely works. Perfect for looking out of a car
window on the motorway, perfect for hiding under the bedcovers.
'Searching' and 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine' - Roy Ayers Ubiquity
Another blinkered prejudice has been torn away - you don't know how good that
makes me feel. Everyone should have these tracks.
'Manchild' - Herbie Hancock, 'Sweetnighter' - Weather Report
I won't try describing these - just turn your computer off and buy them right
now.
'L'Apocalypse Des Animaux' - Vangelis
It's from the 70s, play it next to something from the 90s.
I'll stop there, incase you think I should only be talking about this (last?)
week's (year's?) new releases..
Cheerio!
..From an emergent Subconscious Geography..
What'son?
'Let's Rock (Over And Over Again)' - Feel
