hm.. I dunno about the new Laika LP, but I have a review of discotech now that I've heard it.. I've heard it, and I _don't_ like it. I won't say much, just these few things: 1) It is not, nor is it remotely related to IDM. 2) I stopped the cd from playing 10 seconds after the song started. 3) It is not dance music, or electronic dance music in the sense of dance music.. Of course it can be danced to, but it's as much dance music as some stuff by Green Day or what not. 4) It is 100% pop, I feel puzzled about why an argument was started about this in the first place. send flames to buh@clark.net, not IDM :) -- __ __\ \ Aurafix aka Hillie / PHD ^ DAMONES / /_\ \ http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html \_____/ >> buh@clark.net >> < > .. >> .<>> >> > , m7= Do re mi fa so la ti .. Shame, at exactly 12 seconds into the tune, theres this incredible hum...then a 303 starts with a 50bpm breakbeat over the top and sound of waves lapping at the shoreline. <grin> ...sorry couldn't resist.. -- Ben Coffer Hybrid Productions http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

Not at all as good. And I *did* post a review on this list, only not very big. There are a couple of tracks with their distinctive combination of sophisticated beats (a 7/8 song, for example) and beautiful textures, but most of them seem to be a bit muddled, with none of the wow or the ooh that I got from the first record. If you thought that Silver Apples of the Moon was one of the best records of last year (or was it 95?!), its worth getting because it does have about 4 or 5 good songs on it. I'm hoping it grows on me. Maybe I think it's disappointing because it did not open with such a stunner like Sugar Daddy, which made me woozy when I first heard it. ( Damn, it's hard to write a adequate review of something when you were disappointed but still like it! It's easier if you just berate it with all your bile, or laud it with all your lube. Sitting on the fence is no fun.) -Chris Fahey
