I read from a Finnish newspaper yesterday that David Bowie's "Heroes" is going to be released as a single with Philip Glass' "remix" done in '93 and a new remix by Aphex Twin. I reckon someone already mentioned this being released in Japan a month or two ago.. Anyone know the exact release date outside Japan? :) -- .Mikko

Anyone heard Glass' remakes of some of the tracks from LOW? I've got 'em, and IMHO they don't do much for me. The spots where he stays true to the compositions are nice, but when he wanders off into arpeggio-ville as is the case with most of his own work, the pieces lose whatever quality made them special in the first place. Just my .02, would certainly like to hear what other people thought of those reinterpreted LOW tracks, and to be fair, I would be interested in hearing what he does with the Heroes tracks. Its just the above review leads me to believe Glass puts these tracks through the same treatment. Peace. James

I found this at http://www.canoe.ca/JamMusic/ (if any of you care)... --- Sunday, February 23, 1997 "HEROES" SYMPHONY By DAVE VEITCH Calgary Sun "HEROES" SYMPHONY -- Phillip Glass (Point Music): To this day, David Bowie and Brian Eno's 1977 album "Heroes" remains one of rock's most chilling and bleak recordings. Neo-classical composer Glass adapts six songs from this avant-garde classic for the symphony, replacing Bowie and Eno's icy synth soundscapes with warmer orchestral sounds and liberally changing the original's melodies and harmonics (though they're still recognizable) to fit his own means. By doing so, Glass hasn't merely orchestrated "Heroes"; he has respectfully reinvented the work. You'll never hear the original album the same way again.
