Montage: Anthropologie
Soup-Disk Soup 003
1996
Composed and mixed by Akira Yamamichi
This CD is a mix-up up of
1. REALLY nice jazzy, toe-tapping, instrumental hip-hop
2. jazzy intelli-jungle
3. good samples ("television is reality," "the meaning...if you mean
life")
4. scratched vinyl sounds and purposeful distortion
5. quiet, ambient interludes at various points
I see this as an increaingly used way of doing an "album" and
appealing to multiple types of listeners.
Coldcut is tops in this "division" but this is good stuff too. This
is a bit like DJ Cam, but moodier, I think, check the song titles:
Broken Music
Phonographic Discord
Dig Up The Mixology
Hype Text Shift
Interzone of the College City
Enligthening on the Sense of Time
Illusion of the Life Facts
Pale Nocturne #6
Abstrato
Divoto Moderna
Atrocity In Philadelphia
Freaktone By Anornie
Go Out of Existence
This will appeal to fans of Funki Porcini and stuff on Ntone (the
label) as well as those of you who listen to DJ Spooky.
Incidentally the whole CD is mixed way down. It was obviously meant
for low level listening.
I like it.
I think I have something else on the label, and I'll let you know
about that in the future.
On now: The Golden Paliminos: Dead Inside
(It's beautiful in New Orleans today.)
