my brother wrote a stupid message just a few minutes ago. i do get the point or whatever of idm. it is to discuss ambient music. the reason i wrote about u2 is because people were badmouthing an album they had not even heard yet. its hypocritical. and u2 is intelligent dance music. they can speak the english language as well as most, and bono isnt a BAD lyricist. he's overblown and silly at times, but he does have his point now and then. much better than "im a fiastawta" anyway. the music is a times dancy. the drums are incredibly well played, better than any real drummer out there currently. plenty of it is programmed, but mullen does most of it himself. and of course its music, so there you go: intelligent dance music. some of you people (not all, not most, but some, and you know who you are) need to stop being so stupidly opinionated about what type of music you will let on your little list. superiority on your part just makes you look stupid. this is all not meant to be taken on a personal level. i am trying to be civil, lets see if some of you (again you know who you are) can be also. jesse (who does like aphex and all that ilk, but can also expand his taste to accommodate other musical forms.)

Well I hope you consider me to be one of the 'civil' ones:) I have listened to POP (too many times) I have listened to Achtung Baby, Zooropa, etc. These albums all have one thing in common as does Depeche Mode, Nitzer Ebb, and Nine Inch Nials: FLOOD. Like I said, the music isn't even all that bad, but it's a formula, and I would extend that to say it's a Flood formula. Listen to above bands' latest muscial endeavors and you'll see what I mean. I'm not even saying it's bad-I just wonder what the motives (I mean U2) are. I know these guys are smart, do they really go to bed thinking "wow what a profound album we just made!" or do they say "Ah, another pop disc for the masses! everyone will buy it!" And they will too. Not because it's good music, not because it's bad music, but because it's U2. C'mon it's not like they've been great contibutors to what you and I know as IDM...and as far as what you said about them being popularizers, well, why can't the people who make the truly great IDM (AFX, Autechre, Carl Craig/Detroit, etc.) be the popularizers if there has to be poeple labeled as such? I've bought my share of Flood albums, and I'll probably buy some more, but to come on the IDM list and say U2 is perfect is just asking for it:) Nate Harrison Digital Magician Inc. www.digimagician.com nate@digimagician.com 313.994.7316

Guess what? You're both idiots! Yeee haw! U2 is crap now (and I never thought they were that good to begin with). How do you go from songs about Irish politics/nationalism/other deepness to a song about a fucking disco ball? You call that progression?

So we're stupid, but we're not stupid on a personal level. Must be some sort of mass unspecific stupidity like the kind that runs in your family. Oh, I'm only joking. I'm sure you're wonderful people. You might want to check out alt.music.techo, it may be a bit more up your alley. I know I'm going to get in trouble for this but I can't help myself and I know everyone else is thinking the same thing. Flame away, I'm used to it. ok other stuff: is anyone keeping a blue planet/angel discography? I've been trying to keep track of everything but it's a bit difficult. Just got CRANIUM HF "Witchman Mixes" white label 12' (angel 10), which is errr...ok. Listen first. Did we ever resolve what exactly the relationship/difference was between Blue Planet and Blue Angel? AnD: Can someone who has the australian Aphex Twin singles collection get in touch with me? How do you go from songs like "Xtal," "Ageispolis," "Polygon Window," and "Quixote" to a song about the milkman's wife's fucking tits? You call that progression? C. -- C.Hilker (cspot@hyperreal.com) "He was mesmerized by the light-pictures, and the music sent him right into dreamland"

Milkman is much more beatiful and better IMO than Polygon Window, but again it's supposed to be like humorous, moreso than it's supposed to be good. anyhow it's still good IMO. -- __ __\ \ Aurafix aka Hillie / PHD ^ DAMONES / /_\ \ http://www.clark.net/pub/buh/index.html \_____/ >> buh@clark.net >> < > .. >> .<>> >> > , m7= Do re mi fa so la ti .. Erm...yup. They stopped taking themselves so seriously. (Sound familiar?) http://www.eskimo.com/~irving/negativland/u2/ Go, if you don't know. -- Warren Lapham (ceremony-owner@monkey.org) laps@umich.edu (laps@monkey.org)

On the U2 tip: why are we even discussing them? I think I might start posting about rai, mbalax, and samba enredo records again, because they're of dubious intelligence and you can shake your booty to them. All I can say is: "Stay...on...target..." Gonzi (Fresh) wrote:

My sentiments exactly. Not quite what I expected from a Witchman remix, and then the flip (original?) is some average indie stuff...yix! GD
