I had heard the name, and even a couple remixes. I know he has/is? opening for autechre. But my curosity wasn't peaked until I picked up Repeat - repeats <for those that don't know, repeat is plaid + mark broom>. So who is he? what is his style like? how much did he contribute to repeat? At least to me repeat sounded very much like plaid and hardly anyone else. But I really liked the album. I should have picked it up sooner.

Can't say much about his contributions to repeat although I wouldn't hesitate to agree that it's a very fine record (kinda jazzy w/ almost neo-psychadelic repetitive grooves...). Mark Broom has been on the go for years. Well worth checking out (though it does sound a little dated now) is his 'Gold Cheese' 12" which was highly regarded. It also features writing credits for Handley and Turner and credits 'Black Dog Productions'. Another contributor to this list may be better qualified to comment on this, however! Mark Broom has been evident by himself in recent years and, again, his 'Emulate' ep [Cosmic Records 1995] seemed to garner some praise if I recall correctly. His 'A13' artist status may point in the direction of current connections with Kirk Degiorgio as well...? Rubyjune.

Speaking of Mark Broom, what is his album 'Angie is a Shoplifter' like? I've seen it in my store, but don't know if I should pick it up. AtL-5

Absolutely luverly stuff - great tight grooves with a lot of tweaked atmospheres. Sort of in the Detroit techno-house camp (Claude Young etc.) but a lot better than most of it. One of last year's best, but if you're FOTF-phobic, avoid. Ashok
