Hi! I've heard of a "best of" CD from Biosphere. I think it's a japanese import CD. Has anyone else heard about this? Does anyone have a tracklisting? Biospher will release no less than two albums this winter/spring (at least here in Norway). The CD "Insomnia" is a soundtrack to a thriller shot in Tromsoe, hometown of Geir Jenssen. Geir describes the music as "not ambient, not techno, more like modern classic electro acoustic." I'll post a review as soon as I get it. The "proper" Biosphere album, "Substrata" is released in may. Bot are on Origo Sound here in Norway. Label for the rest of the world still not official. Does anyone know when the new Biosphere is out. Hear a promo in rough trade the other week - well ambient, obviously an extension of the HIA collab stuff. For all those who arent completely jaded with the ambient scene it sounded pretty damn good - the kind of atmospherics that make you sit up and say ooh! Have been playing the new Squarepusher most of the time - more listenable than the first, I think. The idea that it is a 'tribute' to the Colchester rave scene seemed a bit strange what with the music being in the style that it is in - but its bloody good. Sorry to mention music on this list ;-) rA

Substrata is due soon on All Saints, Brian Eno's label. But Biosphere also have another new CD out: "Insomnia". This is the soundtrack for a norwegian thriller, shot in the city of Tromso. The "Insomnia" CD is sparse and abstract, with a darker feel. I don't know when or if it will be released world wide, but it is out now in Norway, and can be bought from Beatservice Mail Order. E-mail for details, or check out my web pages. URL below. Also, if you like Biosphere, you'll also love the debut CD from fellow-Tromso artist Aedena Cycle. "Albite" has the same dark arctic feeling as the Biosphere albums, but with the addition of jazz infuence, eastern flavours and sofisiticated rhythms. Out now on Beatservice Records, and (you guessed it) availiable from Beatservice Mail Order. You'll find details and reviews on the Beatservice webpages. It's pretty good; huge and organic, sometimes even a little choral and orchestral sounding. I'd forgotten about a lot of ambient music for the last little while and substrata's melodic ramblings have made me dig out stuff I haven't listened to in ages (including those Richie Hawtin/Pete Namlook albums and 'the fires of ork' which imho are all worthwhile). He could, however, have left off the bird, wind, and water noises without me personally missing them ;) I've got to admit that, with 'substrata' being largely beatless, I miss the more rhythmical tracks Geir used to do (the fairy tale remix with the cyclical speed-changing high-hat was a mind expander of days gone...). All Biosphere titles should be widely available. I've heard some in the USA complain about the availability of Substrata, but there are a lot of good mailorder services, for instance you may want to try http://www.isotank.com for instance. For other Biosphere fans, there are two possible new releases in the very near future. hello! first of all, the auctions end for most of the stuff i have up at e-bay in less than 24 hours. just added a few more items too. search in the sellers block for "safety_sam" (remember the "_" thingy!) at http://pages.ebay.com/aw/search.html lots of goodies left at closeout prices! that aside, anyone know any more about this release (or heard it)? have never heard of nordheim nore deathprod...

and i'm still sticking with my recommendation for "microgravity" after "substrata" & "patashnik". it may not be straight ambient, but i like MUCH more than patashnik. anyways, most people can't find "insomnia", "polar sequences", or "fires of ork"... [though i have seen "insomnia" still listed in a few on-line stores] -marc-

Someone said that was a speech of a telepathist who tried to recognize a thing lying on a table in the room several floors apart. It was taken from some TV show. -- Stay tuned, MhZ mailto:mzabal@module.vympel.msk.ru

Dunno if you have it (or even if it's still available), but Biosphere & Higher Intelligence Agency's "Polar Sequences" is really nice- cold ambience mixed with odd beats comprised of drum machines + environmental sounds. Pete Numlook + HIA "S.H.A.D.O." has one of the most beautiful idm tracks I ever heard. It is the first track. Prior to this album I had other Namlook's collaborations (Bill Laswell, Jonah Sharp, etc) but this one is much much better. I only have to think what his "Dark Side of the Moog" series is.
