This CD is a reissue (plus extra material) of a pic disc released a couple
of years ago on Robot.
Andrew Chalk's work dates back to the mid-80s, when he released cassettes
as Ferial Confine and graduated from the school of David Jackman via an
early incarnation of Organum (documented on the reissues of Flayed/Crux
(Matchless) and a CD on Complacency). Lately, he's been cranking out
cassettes and CD-Rs under the name Ora and has just started releasing
records in collaboration with Christoph Heeman under the name Mirror
(which just released a $53 CDR, sigh). There's also a solo persona, which
I don't find to be quite as satisfying as his other projects.
Coleclough is a little newer to the "scene" (first achieved "fame" via a
prior collaboration with Chalk, in fact- I reckon this is ridiculously
unavailable right now, as tends to be the case with these guys) and has
put out a few unbelievably great solo CDs, the first of which is called
_Cake_ and has just slipped out of print. If you dug Sumac, you'll
probably want to get a hold of at least these, plus some of the primo
Organum material (unending list, but get a hold of what's currently
available, excepting the artwork-less CDs that came out last year and
aren't particularly good).
Going further afield, you might want to dip your toes into the pool of
Morphogenesis, which has a kindred tap into the source of most of this
improv-drone- the magical mountain spring of AMM (may it never run dry-
the late 80s/90s work is probably most apropos; however, everyone should
be privy to the hallowed AMMusic, recorded over 30 years ago and quietly
splitting more minds open every single year).
