hi,
sorry, i forgot who was asking this, so i'm posting this to the list:
the question was something like: how did people behind the iron curtain
listen and experience house music?
Well, i'm not from "behind the iron curtain", but i do remember a good
documentairy about the subject on national (holland) tv back in
1988-1989. It featured 2 guys from moscow who came to holland every now
and then to buy records. I can't remember why, but the 2 guys copied all
the music to a tape recording unit (those 5 inch tapes, i mean, they're
always used in old 007 movies). So back in Moscow, the people with a bit
more money than the average person (yes, there were people like that)
came to the clubs where the 2 guys were playing (DJing). These guys used
a couple of those old tapedecks to play house music in the basements of
houses somewhere in Moscow, truly 'underground' i would say.
I don't know why the russian gov let these 2 guys go to Holland, but i've
got a hunch that it's related to the people (with money) who came to the
clubs, wink wink, nudge nudge :)
anyway, it's been a long time since i've seen that, but maybe some other
people from holland on this list have seen the documentairy too, and
remember more than me?
hope to be of some help,
byebye,
Collin
