What does Aphex Twin Selected Ambient works sound like (if in fact, the sound can be described)? Also, can someone give me a track listing for >I Care Because You Do<... I can't tell which song is which by the track list on the CD. Much Appreciated. -d-

SAW85-92 is mostly ambient techno.. soft, soothing basslines, beautiful melodies, and sometimes even eerie melodies.. the beats are pretty tame and soothing as well.. this may very well be my favorite AFX album ever. SAWII is all ambient. 95% of the album doesn't even have any percussion, and it's awesome in terms of the tracks, soft, impressionable repetition and stuffs.. read the FAQ on http://www.hyperreal.com/music/artists/aphex_twin/ for more info about it..

It's much easier with headphones and the balance cranked all the way to the left. :) Those voices sound very very very much like some of the voices of the speech synthesis program (MacInTalk) that came with my Macintosh (and most every other one sold within the past year or two). As far as I can tell, the vocals continue in different voices for at least the first two minutes or so of the song. "Aphex Twin...I Care Because You Do..." ...over and over, as if we'd forget what we were listening to. Thanks for the help, Rich! ;) -- Warren Lapham (ceremony-owner@monkey.org) laps@monkey.org (laps@umich.edu)

Yep, Rich is a MacIntosh user. But I'm wondering... Richard did that gig they showed on MTV Europe last November completely with his laptop Mac. (And before that there was lots of talk about Richard not doing any live gigs until he can do them using a single black box.) Does anyone know if he's using MIDI with the laptop or is it just that he has a gigful of tracks on his HD as plain samples? The latter option sounds more reasonable since with MIDI it would be too slow to load a new track everytime the previous track finishes right? And I reckon Tom Middleton telling me about a year ago that Richard has bought a Macintosh "with 4 gigs of digital recording space" or something.

full track by track review of SAW85-92 at http://hyperreal.com/music/reviews/davis/ it's pretty describable. skip the reviews and opinions, and just go out and buy it, if your pushed for time. on now: Spy vs. Spy: matt lehrer vs Teep Jeff Davis <pHlow> ____--~~~~~~vvvv~~~~ oooo812.831.7846 jjdavis@xnet.com____---- ( ( ( vvvv ~~~~~~ooooooooooooo ___----( ( \ \ \ \ \ vvv ooooooooooooooooooo ____---- ( \ \ \ \ \ \ \ http://www.xnet.com/~jjdavis/
