Finally checked out the most recent MP excursion and while it does much
more for me than some of the Slaz/Moscheles-style funk, I was kind of
disappointed by the production quality. I've always considered
Paradinas to be technically adept, but this release has all kinds of
ugly pops (bad soundcard perhaps?) and sloppily aligned breaks. Not
like he's doing it for effect a la RDJ or Alec Empire...
Some of the tunes are pretty decent though, despite the sloppy
production effort. I especially like "Hornet" which sounds like a
cartoon of an angry little hornet fellow.
Incidentally I somewhat agree with the guy who said he wished there
would be more discussion of the production techniques employed in
various releases or maybe even more personal impressions of releases.
The music we listen to is fairly abstract in nature, and I'd love to see
more interpretation of the works rather than a simple "the latest RDJ
sucks" or just simply playing the catalogue/spotting game. Kudos to
those who have provided more description in their reviews. We need more
threads like the Frank Lloyd Wright-Autechre comparison.
Feel free to flame,
GD
