Aha! You're talking my language, my friend. I'm adult enough NOT to
engage in such "(aph)sexual" tumfoolery & go-nowhere discussions that has
invaded the once great IDM list. I can actually talk about MUSIK!
At any rate, UNIQUE was released in '94 by Rising High experimental
sublabel, Sapho, and is the 1st of 2 albums produced by the prolific(but
quiet) James Bernard, who is a brilliant musician, and masquerades as a
synth programmer er something at Korg. The other album is called
ATMOSPHERICS, and is part of the "Rising High Ambient Collection".
UNIQUE blends textures of standard trance, dark melodic techno as only
Rising High can do it, strain of Detroit, and even a beatless dance
track(now there's an oxymoron for ya!) I love this album to death, and
still play it to this very day. Favorites include: 'monday', 'still',
'unique', and a couple of others. What tripped me out was the packaging
of the vinyl version. Two separate jackets for each record shrinkwrapped
together--making it very difficult to remove. This is one of very few
records that has stood the test of time--and will still blow any of these
crap "goatrance" out of the water anyday!
ATMOSPHERICS on the other hand is a downbeat affair similar in some
respects to Locust' WEATHERED WELL album on R&S, tribal percussion,
rhythmic synth loops dancing around playfully while retaining an
atmospheric mood. Favorites include: 'euph', 'complete nonsense',
'mars rain', 'odyssey'.
Get them both (if they are still available), or dust your copy off and
have a go again, today!
