I'll second Lance's review of the new Headshell ep on Toshoklabs, although there are some jazz elements threaded deep within those tunes. Check out www.toshoklabs.com for more details on related/upcoming releases. "State of the Art Heirloom" is the next (ambient compilation) release. 2000 looks to be a good year for Toshoklabs, so if you haven't picked up on their "home brewed electronic listening music", what are you waiting for?. Recognizer and Caural are now lined up on the Toshoklabs roster, and their material will be released in the next few months.. more details as information becomes available. The "Live @ Invisible Cities" cdr-set should still be available through the New York and Michigan offices. This is an excellent compilation that shouldn't be bypassed featuring Jack Russel, Ocone, R-Tronix, Plex, Cardboardmen, Headshell, as well as Recognizer and is the third release for Toshoklabs that is not listed in their discography (yet). You might recognize some of the artist's listed on "Live @.." from the "Toshoklabs presents: Dated" compilation from early 1999. Another gem of sparkling electronic debris from many genre's. Below you'll see a mini-review i posted to the IDM-L about a month back. "State Of The Art Heirloom" hasn't been released yet, but it is the next release slated on Toshoklabs. You can check out an online review i wrote for "State Of The.." on the Grooves website at: www.groovesmag.com/reviews/heirloom.html. The latest info on Toshoklabs is that they've mp3'd a live set of David O'Toole's (Antarktika) show at Invisible Cities in New York. It's about an hour long, and is well worth the time to download. Ambient folks will definitely appreciate the raw texture's that Antarktika creates.
